    Hi,
a friend wants to get their son a PS3 for Christmas and we are bot clueless as to what the best current model is. I see the PS slim seems to be available. Which is the best one to get and are there problems with the new slim ones. last time I looked they had a 20gig hd which was huge back then....now I see 500gig versions. What would you guys recommend?
    John

There a slim PS3 and a super slim which is new, the super slim comes with 12GB or 500GB ( US has a 250GB but it's not out here)

Don't buy the new cheap 12GB super slim, the 120GB or up slims would be fine.

It really depends on what games they want as bundles will affect the choice.

The larger sizes are only needed if you get PlayStation plus which is a rental service that about €10 per 90 days right now and give a huger amount of games each month as well as discounts. Some bundles include a 90 day trial which would have 10 games initially and add a few more each month.

Smiths are offering the Super slim 120gig,320gig and 500gig all for €299.....whats the catch?

HDD size is rather important. The average file size for a full retail Ps3 game being released digitally is anywhere between 6-12GB, rendering the 12Gbmodel pretty useless unless you limit yourself to disc based games only. I upgraded my 2007-model 60GB PS3 to a 650GB HDD and even with all the free games I get with Playstation Plus every month, storage is not an issue.

Got my girlfriend a PS3 for Xmas: HMV do (or at least did a few weeks ago) a bundle of a 500GB superslim PS3 with two new releases and HDMI cable for €250. Not a bad deal.

The 320 is the slim, it's older and they've just not changed the price. The 500 is the super slim, between the two the 500GB is better at that price. The 160 would be fine for for buying the games in a shop rather than buying them digitally and downloading them.

You'd get those cheaper than that in some other shops, and there would be some good bundles but you'd need to know what games you'd like to really compare them

Don't get the 12gb one. There will be 2 or 3gb used up with the operating system and other stuff so you'll only have maybe 9 or 10gb of space available. A lot of disc games need a mandatory install that takes a couple of gigs as well so you'd only be able to rotate between playing a handful of games without deleting and reinstalling stuff

Xtra Vision probably have the best deals this year: http://www.xtra-vision.ie/console-bundles

Is there any difference between the 160gig and 500gig other than just the size of the HDD?

The newer one is smaller and probably more energy efficient and possibly quieter.

Does HMV still have that bundle with the PS3, and three games for 300? That was quite good, I went for that one :)

    Ps3-fat-slim-superslim.jpg

    PS3 Fat [comes in 20GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB and 160GB] far-right
    PS3 Slim (2000 series) [comes in 120GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB] middle
PS3 Slim (3000 series) [comes in 160GB and 320GB] middle
    PS3 SuperSlim (4000 series) [comes in 12GB, 250GB and 500GB] far-left

The one you are seeing is the last one listed above.

I probably just confused things more but I hope the above helps.

They deal has changed from the one i got, but it does come with one game for sure, might be two....you'd have to check instore.

They have a great deal on Black Ops 2 - the game + Turtle Beack Black Ops headphones (wired)....the cams are worth 89.99 on there own but you get the game as well, so for 90 quid you get the game and headphones.

What about this deal from GameStop, took a pic of it in the shop.

    500gb s-slim
    2 official PS controllers
    1 x platinum game
1 x FIFA 13 or NFS Most Wanted or Unchartered 3

    All for €299.99.

    Is that decent?
