I'm looking to pick up a frame suitable for a fixie project bike.

I don't have a huge budget for it so any suggestions where I might find one on the cheap would be most appreciated.

Car boot sale, Ebay, church jumble sale, local papers, adds in shops and never walk past a skip without checking it for bikes.

The most important feature are horizontal drop outs so you can adjust chain tension easily.

Everyone wants a Reynolds 531 frame but don't dismiss a plain tube hi-ten frame out of hand. They can be had very cheaply and ones made by the decent manufacturers like Raleigh, Dawes, Peugeot tend to ride very well, they just won't be as light as the higher end frames.

I have a nice frame suitable for fixie conversion. It's a 1950's Carlton with 531 tubing. I actually had it built up as a fixie until recently, but I've transferred most of the bits over to a different frame that fits me better.

Sizewise it's a 21". I could let you have the stem, handlebars, front brake, bottom bracket and seat post with it. It could do with being stripped and repainted but it's a really nice frame with a lot of character.

I'd be looking for €150 for it. All you'd need is a crankset, chain, wheels, pedals and saddle, you could probably get on the road for ~€250 total.

    On-one Pompino

Built myself a single speed commuter bike using one of these frames at the end of October....

I absolutely love it, have put up ~900km on it since its maiden voyage on 30/10/12....

It's probably a little more than I wanted to spend, being major cheap here because I already have a fully functioning vintage racer that I'm more than happy with.

Could you send me some pics maybe? I could PM you my email address.

No worries mate - I'm still kind of half thinking of building it back up as a vintage myself :)

I'll send you over a few photos when I get home from work...

On-One (Athlone) are selling the new Pompie frames/forks for €135, good value if you don't mind the union flag (stay clear of Belfast town hall) on the frame and a white rose on the front (that some kind of cricket thing?).
This is the 2012 version, that takes bigger tyres and has the self-locking drop-outs.
