    Hi all,

I have a mkiv golf. I replaced the clutch 6 months ago but it slips in higher gears when you accelerate.

Before taking out the clutch is their anything else I can check? Ive heard the flexihose can collapse. How can I check tHis?

The car was never driven hard so the cluch should have been fine.

Think you maybe need to ask a mechanic to take it for a spin.
then get another opinion, costs nothing for a estimate.

What engine and gearbox is in the Golf and do you know what brand of clutch kit was fitted?

Its the 6 speed 130 bhp model.

It was a lucs clutch and flywheel.

I dont drive hard at all so im thinking it might be something else.

I did the clutch because the release bearing failed. I also replaced the clyinder behind the pedal so its almost a completely new system!

Have seen this happen with a few LUK clutches lately. We sent back a Mondeo clutch to our supplier on warranty only last week for the same issue, it only had 8k miles done and the car was virtually undriveable.

Where did you buy the clutch? Did you fit it yourself or did you get a garage to do it?

My mate (a mechanic) fitted it with me. Hes extremely particular so I dont think thered be any issue with the fitting.

Would I better going with a sachs replacement? Anything else i can check before taking out yhe clutch?

Get your friend to have a look for you, he should be able to tell you if it is the clutch itself at fault.

Where did you buy the clutch kit?

As for Sachs, I don't know really. I have never had a problem with Sachs but we fit far more LUK clutches than Sachs so statistically are far more likely to have had faulty LUK units than Sachs.

Bought it from a local supplier (he supplies local garages). Should have been fine.

The weird thing is it was slipping sImilarly Before I replaced the clutch. I guess Im just going to have to take it out and see.

    Thanks george

i can supply you with clutch / flywheel kit in luk or sachs if needed

the only problems i have saw with the 130bhp is when they are remapped they
are very hard on dual mass kits, alot of people convert to solid in this case
other than that i would just put it down to bad luck
luk/sach are both very good brands

I'd really just be looking for the clutch, since the flywheel was so recently replaced.

How much would you charge? Where abouts are you based?

It will be replaced under warranty no problem once it was installed correctly and not abused if it is slipping. It could be something else like oil leaking into the bell housing causing the slippage which wouldn't be covered

pm me the reg of car and il get you a price but you should have warrenty on your kit, all kits should have 1 year warrenty no questions asked

be carefull, you must use luk clutch with luk flywheel, or sachs clutch + flywheel
you can not mix and match on vw as they wont work
