    Hi,
    I am in 4th year construction in I.T Carlow in Ireland, I am currently doing my dissertation on studying particular H&S Issues with Energy Retrofitting (Dwellings Post 1970's).Has anybody experienced issues like this? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated if you could send me in the direction to get help on this issue.

    Some issues with 1970's dwellings post construction there is issues with H&S energy retrofits currently:

    1. Dew point in retrofitting
    2. Condensation with mould growth in internal insulation
    3. Sealed buildings(airtight)
    4. Inadequate air movements
    5. MHRV-System design/location/filters and condensation in pipework
    6. Dwell vent windows for ventilation
    7. Passive stack ventilation -Bedzed
    8. Mould and associated risks (asthma and other respiratory conditions
    9. poor air quality associated with insufficient air changes (CO2, CO, VOCs etc)
    10. Radon - radon sensors, which cost little, should be installed in ground floor rooms with no envelope upgrades taking place before radon levels are known.
    11. DHW and air conditioning/ventilation systems must be properly designed and installed so as to prevent buildup of legionella
    12. Fire safety. Installed measures must not compromise the fire safety of the building.
    • Gas cookers (or other fuels that emit into indoor environment);
    • Fossil fuels in heaters or a fire place;
    • Chemical emissions from decoration materials;
    • Emissions from cleaning materials, pesticides, fragrances, candles, incense, etc.;
    • Biological emissions, based on the age of the mattress, the type and humidity and cleanliness of surface (flooring) materials, soft decorations and other dust pockets;
    • Excessive moisture production: more than 3 showers per day and laundry drying indoors
    • Pet’s
    • Smoking in the house with other people present.
    • Legionella risk in domestic water buffers with heat from solar panels or heat pumps.

    This is a brief outline of some topics I am looking at.
