Satellite broadband - Loading webpages slow?

    Hey all.

I just got satellite broadband a few days ago from onwave. I signed up for the 18mbps down and 6mbps up package. Ping time is 850ms.

I am getting my download speed as advertised but currently only getting .5 > 1.0mbps upload speed which is of course an issue. They are investigating that.

I was previously with three and generally averaged 2.5mb down and 2.5mb up.

With three webpages generally loaded within 1>4 seconds max. With onwave despite the speeds being far greater than three webpages generally take 8>12 seconds to load.

Is this just how it is with satellite broadband? With all the factor's added up it just doesn't make sense why web browsing is so slow with it.

Does anyone else experience this? I am looking to gather some feedback so I know what to say when I call them about this again on monday.

Well your ping is quite high. This is expected though with satellite as it has high latency

    Yeah.

If my figures are correct though, that means that it takes 0.85 seconds to ping the server and back.

Added to that the download speed of 16mbps which equates to about 1.4mb/s download speed, pages should be loading at around 1.5>2 seconds right?

The ping of between 650 and 850 is normal fot onwave.

Ive the same package and web pages load quicker than you specify

Hey Adne. Thanks for the response.

Can you give me an idea of how long it takes to load for instance: google or twitter's sites?

    Appreciate the response.
