2 modems with UPC?

Is it possible to use 2 modems with UPC? We've recently built a shed onto the side of the house and extended the coax cables into it, but the wireless isn't strong enough to reach. Is it possible to use a 2nd modem?

Also, can you buy a used cisco modem off adverts and use it? Or is it a case that you have to get the modem from UPC?

You can get a 2nd modem from UPC but would need to open a 2nd account. Have you considered moving the modem to a more central part of the house and tinkering around with the wireless channel? Of course you could always buy a wireless repeater in a PC shop, that might do the trick.

Regards buying an old UPC modem online , all the modems bought from UPC remain the property of UPC so if you see one for sale someone's not returned it to UPC.

The best option would be to buy a wireless range extender (or repeater) and run a cable from your modem to it. Heres one from PC World - http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/NETGEAR-WN3000RP100UKS-Universal-WiFi-Range-Extender/307843/7.16

Bought one of these yesterday, didn't work, would not connect to the router, kept kicking me out. Returning it to the shop today.

Ideally run a cable all the way. You could also run a cable (Cat5) and mount a second wireless access point (with a different name and password) at the back of the house near the shed.

Wireless extenders need to go HALF way between the shed and the UPC box, NOT in the shed.
