For those who are interested, here's an interview with twice Australian decathlon champion Steve Cain, 7th at the 2011 World University Games:

He gives a fascinating insight into the grueling training required to become an international class multi-eventer. Truly jaw-dropping.

Agreed, and probably the most underrated as well.

Yerra, would he not just pick one of dem sports and do them properly!

Great interview. I always wonder how they manage to find time to train for the different techniques of the field sports. Pole vaulting technique isn't going to help discus much I'd imagine. Amazing stuff really

A great 10 minute video about the decathlon, why people do it, and the training. Worth a watch.

For those interested, here's an interview with a buddy of mine from my decathlon days in Melbourne, David Brock, current Australian Decathlon Champion, who has been selected to represent Australia at this year's World University Games in Korea. Another great insight into the gruelling training required to be a top level decathlete. If you like what read and feel like throwing him a few quid to help this self funded trip to Korea, there's a link towards the end of the interview.

    My favourite quote:

"All decathletes just seem to be great blokes. I don’t think you can get too far in the decathlon if you are a dick. You will just have a bad time during the competition and your performances will suffer."

A different side of the coin here, but an interview with one of the top coaches in the world which might be of some interest to the deca- enthusiasts.
