Waxwing (was - Bird ID please....)

Was passing by the window today when i noticed a guy in the road taking a picture of something...when i looked out there were about 15 or more birds, all the same on a telephone wire across the road...they were mostly brown but with a copper/red chest...not robin's i might add..but the closest thing i could find on the web…

Was passing by the window today when i noticed a guy in the road taking a picture of something...when i looked out there were about 15 or more birds, all the same on a telephone wire across the road...they were mostly brown but with a copper/red chest...not robin's i might add..but the closest thing i could find on the web is a Cardinal red finch...it was the peak on the back ot the head that was most obvious....anyone any ideas..???

Yep theyre the fellas alright....beautiful sight....I'm in Bray btw...Do they go around in flocks usually.?? i think i've seen the odd one in the garden...we keep the local birds well fed...;)

Most years you get very few of them here but every so often, you get a "Waxwing year" and we get tons of them. They have been seen all over the country, especially in towns, in flocks of 5-100.

Yep they were big local news in Bray last week. Hundreds in City Centre today
