A friend of mine has a heavily tarnished brass fireplace fender. Brasso does not seem to have worked (don't know how much effort was put into it).

    Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

"Barkeepers Friend" does a good job on heavily tarnished copper and brass, failing that try Autosol (available from motor factors). Either way a certain amount of elbow grease is required.

Forgot about "Barkeepers Friend" which is great stuff - will try that first and see how we get on - thanks!

    Vinegar.

Us fishkeeping folk use it to get rid of scale and salt build up on fishtank equipement.

Milton fluid is also a very handy trick to do aswell.
