Anyone got any info as to if this is coming through next week?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,663 ✭✭✭20silkcut

I got my last reps3 payment in dec 2010. God be with the days. I used to get 6500 could do with it now. Up until October I was getting 100 euro a week on the farm assist that has now being cut to 40 euro a week cause I bought in stock this year and will probably be gone fully with the new measures introduced yesterday. In 2013 I will be getting at least 8500 less than I was getting in 2010 through budget cuts. I am sure there are many like me and worse. Farming has been absolutely dis-embowelled in comparison to other sectors. But then reps was never classed as an income but for me it was absolutely.

Us late starters in reps 3 really fell between the cracks. Might get the Aeos this year big maybe though.

    Hi Ellewood,

I think it will be 10% less this year, than what we got last year.

As I understand it... that's for next year.

So the 2013 payment == the 2012 payment.

But as REPS was cut by 10% in the 2012 budget (in Dec 2011) then we will see a 10% cut in what we get this year, compared to last year...

But... I am more than happy to be proved wrong in this case, and not get a 10% cut :)

I had a niggling feeling alright that they cut it last year - for this year, but its still a lot better than anyone who has finished their reps plans and are getting nothing.

Yes, was thinking of any cuts on REPS for 2013 as 2012 cuts was old news to me.

2013 will be the last year as I understand it.

But maybe someone else can confirm that.

Are you hoping you will see more land freed up after REPS is finished Kev?

So for those that got in to reps4 just before they stopped taking applications, is 2013 the final year.

When reps was mentioned by Houlan in the budget, he did say that some of 2013's payments would be pushed out into 2014.(soft landing for the public accounts)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,099 ✭✭✭tabby aspreme

If I can remember correctly I got into reps 4 on the final day, so the first year I had 3 months of reps 4 and then 5 full years, I think this is my 3rd full year

This payment makes up over 50% of farm income on my family farm, December 2013 will be the 5th and final year of payment, unless a new scheme is introduced our family farm will be worthless and should be either sold or forested to realize maximum potential and I myself as heir to it will have to emigrate abroad as these last ties to this country will be worthless. I have remained here since 2008 because I have so much inheritance at stake.

I have always maintained that there is no future in farming and have had many rows with my father over this issue, I wanted him to sell the farm for €2.5m during the boom and he refused, he refused once again to buy another large farm for half a million euro when that could have been forested giving a large financial return. I see no future in farming especially when the state continues to make payments to farmers over 60, succession or the lack of it in family farms is killing them. If farming is to have a future then it needs to be geared towards the young farmer who will try and make an honest go of it, not old farmers who expect their children to waste their lives away and wait for them to die before they can do anything with a place.

Did you want him to sell the farm and give you the money ?

Is he currently stopping you from running the farm and getting an income out of it?

Unless you commit to a life of bachelor hood you will never have the payments or farm income to yourself and even then the taxman will get you and your parents will still have to be looked after anyway , nursing homes are around 700 euro a week at least.

This current period where the two of you are living off it with everything in his name may actually be the most profitable. With nothing in your name you can draw the dole. If you have an off farm job then your better again And I presume he can look after things while your working.
I had a father once and I can tell you they are missed when they are not around anymore. Ringing neighbours to stand in gaps and help round up your cattle is not always an option. His labour is free or would be in most family situations.
This notion that paradise awaits when you get everything in your name and your parents pushed aside is false it is then that the sh1 t starts. It is then that the taxman cometh. It is then that you are the boss and the hedge cutter/ hoof trimmer/ vet / mechanic/ tradesman/scrap merchant/ contractor etc etc will look for you for payment. Your life will be full of dealing with assholes and you won't be able to say: " talk to the boss" or " talk to the ould lad" anymore.

    Hi Stinicker,

Its hard to know where to start with that post... I think most peple will tell you lads aren't in farming to make their millions ;)

But maybe the best thing to say is provide a bit more info on your farm, what you guys currently do, what you'd like to do yourself... and then maybe people on here can provide suggestions for maybe increasing the returns...

Sometimes, its easier to talk to a stranger, and they see things more clearly than people who are very involved...

Selling for 2.5m buying another bit for .5m. Call me old fashioned, short sighted or whatever but i'm one of those lads that would like to think that the family farm will still be the family farm in generations to come. Use it as collateral to expand or whatever but id never sell what was gathered over years and generations.
There is profit in everything its just a case of finding it. Waiting on an inheritance since 08 is only a bit of it, will you have to wait another 10 years? its a big section of your life waiting.
You may not see a future in farming but i know it would kill my parents if i put a for sale sign on the gate, even though when they hand it over it should be up to you what you do with it, maybe they dont want to see it.
Im probably being rude here but stop watching what you might be getting and make a go at something else. The reps payments, grants and inheritance will all be a bonus to you (if you get them;)).

Hi all, I was a REPS planner. I know people who got in the very last day. As far as I understand, the Govt has to honour the contracts, they may reduce payments alright, but I think some people will be getting paid up to and including 2015.

As for those who are worried about AEOS schemes, again my understanding is that there will be no AEOS in 2013. However, there will be a new scheme in 2014 (CAP Reform year, Hopefully!), anyone already in AEOS will get the oppurtunity to switch over to the new scheme without being penalised etc.

This country is heading for the big amalgamated farming estates like in America. There is a big push on Dairy partnerships etc now. Small farmer will eventually be sqeezed out of production, (for those who are relying on income!).

Hugo, schemes will come around again. I hope that all farmers big and small get a FAIR crak of the whip when the CAP Deal comes around. My hope would that there will be a flat rate payment attached to land for all. There should also be an additional payment made to the farmers who are producing. In my opinion, the only payment that should be fixed is the flat rate payment, the payment for production should be variable. Its the fairest way, especially for younger farmers trying to get into farming, as farmers who were producing and want to get out (cus the average is somewhere round 60 yrs age now), will FREE up the production payment. I think times ahead will definitely be the ...era for the freedom to farm! Although, if the big boys got/get their way, the small farmer would/ will be completely be pushed out, as the younger ones trying to get in will be disheartned. I think small/ medium farmers have to hold their ground, and look at the bigger picture, which sometimes gets side tracked with other nonsense!
