Bodypart split

I'm currently designing a new gym routine to try and get back in to the swing of things. I work with a body split routine based on a 3 day training week; Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

So I was thinking of doing the following:

    Monday - Chest and back.
    Wednesday - Deadlift and shoulders.
Friday - Squat, biceps and triceps.

And I'll also be mixing in different core activities each day and maybe some complexes to finish off each workout. Any comments on how effective this routine may or may not be would be appreciated. Are these bodypart combinations effective, considering my goals are to gain size and strength with an emphasis on a lower rep scheme to begin with to build back up my strength and then moving back to an 8-10 rep scheme. Any alternative suggestions for how to split my routine?

One thing to consider is will your biceps and triceps have recovered enough from Friday to do a good chest and back on Monday?

He'll have two full recovery days. Provided he's eating and sleeping well that should be plenty of time.

my own personal advice would be ignore body splitting and focus on the big 5/6 compound lifts and just do those. Try to progress all the time

I concur. Don't do a body part split OP.

Would you advise maybe just a 5x5 routine for each of the lifts then; squat, bench, military, deadlift, row. Any others that would respond well to this routine?
