Hi guys, had a thread up a while ago but thought a new one would be needed.
Have took a bit of advice seen on here and came up with the build attached.
Think Ill get a bigger PSU though.
Whats your thoughts on this, anything ye think I should change.
Anything you think I should change. Might change the case as its not in stock.
I obviously want it for gaming, games dont have to run everything on Ultra settings.
    Thanks.
    Chris :pac:

i would change SSD. crucial m4 is a lot more reliable and better ssd, plus you better off spending a few quid and getting 128gb one

    better case

get z77 mobo if you are going for proper K processor, its not the best mobo, but a lot better then your one m8.

I'd throw in a 2GB HD7850 if you can stretch the extra €20 or so instead the 1GB, I suspect that over the next year or so you will really see it start to become more of a bottleneck even at 1080p, although the only game that really seems to show up the 1GB card at that resolution at the moment is Skyrim. But a 1GB is still great value for money if budget doesn't permit.

    Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
Here would be the upgraded basket.
About €100 above my budget though.
Will have to see if theres anything I can change:confused:

Would probably drop the SSD in that case as it is not essential, just a very very very nice to have, and cutting back anywhere else will hurt gaming performance. It is always something you can add at a later date.

You could make a small partition for windows that you can clone easily onto an SSD later although it is always better to go for a fresh install on an ssd.

FX 8350 + 970 Pro3? That should bring it down a bit, and don't get HWVS to build it for you?

Just working on something similar right now ;)

    EDIT: Done

Throwing out an alternative which works out at exactly 100 euro less. Bit of a compromise on the CPU, but it can be taken pretty close to 5GHz at which point it performs pretty well. You can replace it with a Steamroller CPU which should hopefully be released sometime next year, and will should be a decent improvement again over the current AMD generation. It doesn't really have anything over an i3 build except perhaps in certain multithreading tasks and some overclocking practice ;)

How would you rate the AMD against the i5?
It has bigger cache and more processor speed for less. Do you think it would be a better option?
Thanks so much for this guys :pac:

    EDIT:
    Just spotted you post

Thanks very much for the help marco_polo!
Really like the look of the build, had forgotten about the DVD drive aswell.
How would you rate that AMD processor?
Would there be any need for a quad core against the 3 core?
Sorry for all the questions, its been 5 years since I last upgraded my pc, alot has changed and Im far behind

The processor is just alright really it is a way of keeping in the SSD now, and but still leaving a a decent CPU upgrade possible down the line (I'd be very disappointed if AMD didn't hit the level of current i5 with next years CPU batch). In most games it should fare just as well as the FX8320 as not too many game engines are capable of using that many cores well. But it wouldn't perform quite as well as the Intels in games that are not well multithreaded (but usually the GPU is the bottleneck in the majority of game)

Techspot do some good CPU performance review, bear in mind they use a much more powerful GPU at @1080p that the HD7850 (GTX680s, HD7970s), so in many of these cases the HD7850 would still be the limiting factor in your build. You can crosscheck the CPU figures against the GPU 1920X1200 ones to see the max FPS that the HD7850 would be able to generate, and if the CPU would be holding it back. (Also bear in mind it is a non overclocked FX6300 when present here). Interesting reading if nothing else.

    Hitman

    Borderlands 2

    Medal Of Honor

    Max Payne 3

    Battlefield 3

And having said all that and posted a build I would be leaning towards the i5 build minus the SSD for now, but you can't go too far wrong either way. :pac:

Thank you so much for all the help.
Ha sorry for all these questions.
If it was your preference, would you go for the i5 without SSD, FX 8350 without SSD or the FX6300 with SSD?
Trying to make a decision and want to make the right one, if I have to spend a few extra quids to get alot better then ill spend the extra. Only a few extra weeks of loan repayments :pac:

    i5, get the SSD later.

Why? The 6300 will be able to be upgraded when Steamroller comes out, potentially outperforming even an i7 from socket 1155. As well as that, a reinstall of Windows 7 a few months in can be a pain in the hole.

Would do the i5 I think, but the other two are reasonable alternatives. The most important bit by far is the gpu. Once you have the 7850 I wouldn't worry too much about the rest.

If it was a photoshop/ after affects rig, I'd be recommending the i5 no bother. But I really can't in this situation if he can grab an SSD. You know yourself how much they can help a computer run.

True, 830 on the old chrimbo list.

Not planning on using any photo editing software. Might use some audio editing software from time to time, protools but not on a professional level.
    Mostly gaming use.
So most of ye think the 6300 overclocked with SSD ?
    Decisions decisions :-S

    Update.
    PC is running amazingly.
    Extremly happy with it.
Apart from a bit of hassle with a faulty GPU, everything runs great.
    Thanks again.
