These are going for €109.95 in Powercity if you are near one you can collect in store or they deliver for €5 extra.

    http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-23-WP645TS&pages=1&prod=WP645TS&brands=WALKER&image=

You can usually haggle with the guys in Powercity & get them to knock a couple of €'s off!

BTW have set one of these up for someone & theyr'e quite nice to use!

I got one of these for my mum and its quite nice. A word of caution however, I had a problem where it would not control the volume on bbc ni hd and ch4hd only. I contacted walker and a guy rang me and said this was not possible, so there you are.
Its not really a problem as she can still use the tvs remote to control it, but it sure is a weird one. Oh and the remote cannot be used to put tv into standby, so hold on to yout tv remote.

Probably single biggest advantage with these is having just one remote control for UK and Irish channels.

Can you use the 'red button' for interactive services with these?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,464 ✭✭✭Ronan Raver77

93 euro excluding VAT so its 115euro plus delivery so 124:00eur.powercity are cheaper (hate the way tv trade lists products PRICE bigger font shows the price before VAT)

Only Freesat branded boxes would give Red Button stuff - the channels are there but you'll have to manually switch to them - they're not always on the same stream as such. With most combo boxes of this nature you can tune all the 'free to air' frequencies available on satellite and order them to suit your preference, then select what you want to watch. When it's not Freesat, it is just short of giving you the helping hand of selecting the right sateillite channel but is easy enough to find. Just a little more work than what's desired for some. If you are tech savvy it'd be no hassle.

There are some combo boxes available for cheaper (as cheap of 88euro delivered) from European web shops, but getting a Saorview approved box is a delight!

    Much better option imo.

Are they mpeg5 or 4? Looking for a decent box that I can also get a tv guide from and could ideally record to harddrive internal/external.

Anyone know if I can use this with the two sky cables? As in get rid of sky box which was used for free channels and use this instead with same dish in place or do I need a new dish? Also is it possible to record different channels at once? Lets say watch rte 1 and record tv3 or the uk free channels.thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,341 ✭✭✭✭Tony

You can use your sky dish (just needs one cable) but you will also need an Aeriel to get RTE/Saorview. You can record a satellite channel and watch RTE at the same time and vice versa but you can only record one satellite channel at a time.

Tony.... just coming to this late so excuse the silly questions. Tell me..

1.. I have Sky + HD in sitting room and a 'old' Sky Box in kitchen. Both run back to same disk BUT only sitting room is full Sky. Kitchen is the free stuff like BBC 1/2/3/4 etc. Can I put the AVIVA above in situ instead of the 'old' Sky box on a just 'plug n play'??? Will the current Dish alingment suit the Aviva box?

    2. Is RTE only available on either Sky or aerial???

    Many thanks

The BBC Olympics channel red button switch a few months back worked fine on this box for my parents (they have 3), I'm not sure if this means it is fully red button compatible but it worked quite well for those channels

Most likely, AFAIK, Kimmage place ( Ebay sellers location )does not exist. Satworld are based in Aideen place, Kimmage. Its gotta be them. Eitherway, Ebay cost with delivery for the ARIVA is exactly the same price as Satworld's shop price. So EBAY just saves you the drive really.

Am interested in one of these for a bedroom but am lost as to what all the blurb means. I have non digital UPC connection in the bedroom if that matters?

I'd like a box that gives the UK and Irish free channels and records. Does this one from Kimmage Ebay seller do that? I'm near enough also so hoping I could just collect.

Also, edited to ask what else I'd need to buy. Do I need Sat dish and Aerial on roof of house?

forget the UPC cable if you plan to terminate the service. It will be if no use, apart from relatively recent builds whereby you can use the same cable(s) to route your planned FTA and saorview feeds to other points in the house.

That aside, you are correct. Box, dish, aerial and ancillary bits and bobs is exactly what you need.

The 250 can be delivered from Poland for about €93. Good box with excellent features ;)
Just be careful not to mess with the firmware too much as the chip does not seem to handle it too well.

BTW does it matter whick sky dish I have as the one I was going to
connect to is at least 6 years old and currently has a box connected that can't seem to get the bbc channels. Not sure of the model but it's in my folks and i've been meaning to update the firmware.

Basically, is there a difference in the dishes, I reckon I have an older one -your site mentions minidishes? Did Sky bring out a newer dish in recent years? I know I need cabling and connectors, think im sorted for them.
I have a more recent dish on my own home thats unused ill try and have look.

Rabbits ears work too and you dont neccessarily have to put the aerial on the roof of the house, can just put it inside the attic.

No all satellite dishes are pretty much the same, what matters is size (60cm) and where you point them (astra 2 group of satellites)

Just wondering if anyone has come across this before. I have a Walker Combo box WP645TS-HD. The range of Channel 4 channels has disappeared from the satellite list of channels, including E4, Film4 etc. I've tried both manually adding them, using the latest frequencies form lyngsat.com, and by running a full scan to bring in all stations.

We're really missing them lol, so just wondering if anyone has come across it before?

I'd say try the satellite forum, they'd have the right know how on that one.
