    Hi Folks,

Hopefully doing a bit of work to the house shortly and it looks like we will have to get a new boiler. The current one is an oil boiler which is out in the shed, the thing is that it looks like it's just the rust that is holding it together! There are no leaks from it at the moment but every year that passes it gets a bit shabbier looking.

I was thinking of getting one of the external ones to sit outside the back door to reduce the length of pipe from the boiler to the house. We currently heat about 12 meters of grass which seems just nuts! we have one line of grass that has never seen snow!

Anyway, anyone got any recomendations for boilers? Do you buy the burner bit seperately from the boiler bit? What are good makes, any online sites where I might start my research?

And can anyone recommend someone reliable and knowledgeable in the north wicklow, south dublin area to advise on installation and possible upgrades?

    thanks all

The boiler could look rusty but be in reasonable condition, this alone might not be a reason to change the boiler without getting it checked out.

The "12 meters of grass" you are heating is a different story this is a major heat loss and is something that should be addressed, If you were to leave the boiler in its current location and install low heat loss pipe you would be looking at approx €50 per meter for the pipe so around €600 plus labour, this would be a good reason to relocate the boiler.

It is quite possible that you wont be able to to put the boiler on the back footpath due to required distances from windows, doors non fire rated eves etc, but this is something any oftec technican would be able to explain when onsite.

Grant Vortex would be my recommendation.
The boiler and burner come together as one unit
