    Hi,
my 99 rover 214 died earlier this week, the timing belt went and the engine is probably wrecked and im not gona try fix it...nevertheless, despite the engine the car is taxed till the end of december, nct'd till end of september 2013 and there is about 40euro of petrol in the tank.

Whats the best way to recover the most amount of money from this?

would anyone buy it for 250euro on done deal? can i get money from the tax back? what about scrapage? how much would i get? and where is the best place to get it scraped (dublin) ?

    thanks

Scrap metal is worth about €150 per ton.

If you scrap it, then make sure it's via a reputable yard who give you the appropriate paperwork.

Or throw it up on donedeal and see what you get for it?

You won't be able to claim less than a months tax back, and I'd hazard a guess that an almost 14 year old 214 isn't of much use for parts. I'd say drain the petrol, take off the wheels and tyres and weigh in the car for scrap. My local scrap dealers gives €150 for a car with engine, there's €40 petrol, and you'll surely flog the tyres for €10 each if they're decent.

That's €230, I seriously doubt someone will take it off you for parts for more than that. I've bought taxed and tested, roadworthy cars for less than that.

Would you not consider fixing the car? It would almost certainly be cheaper than buying another car. There's a guy on adverts letting a complete engine and box go for €90. You must know someone who's handy with a spanner that would fit it for a modest fee?
