Chimney sweep prices and professionalism

I've just got a quote for someone to examine a fireplace and chimney for suitability for a stove - €350 (this involves putting a camera in, which seems to be the latest moneymaking craze). Is there any association of chimney sweeps who can recommend a good sweep who knows what s/he's doing and can instal a stove correctly, without laying on the price bigtime?

I don't mind paying, but this had the feel of an ovary tax.

I was shocked at the price and did an online search. http://www.chimneyrepairs.ie/ gives a free advisory visit by one of their staff it seems. I have not used them before nor am I pitching for them. Just a quick search on the internet got me this in the first page. Maybe an advisory chat by one of the staff can save you you some money perhaps? Good luck in your search. I still can't get over the fact the prices have gones so high!

Thanks, will take a look at them.

I don't know that prices have gone so high; I think there are people who see you coming, especially if you're a woman!

Edit: oh, they're in the west, though.

Where are you based? Might trigger some recommendations if people know what part of the country you're in.

if your chimney flue has a clay flue liner, and looks to be in good condition, just get it cleaned...i do chimney cleaning..i charge €40 within a certain mile range, ....now depends from stove shop to stove shop, some will say you need a flue liner insert, others will say you wont.. i personally think once the clay flues are in good condition, just get a reducer pipe to connect your 5 to 6 inch pipe to the stove..easy peazy...oh and im in the linerick area so not much good to you..lol;)

Dublin south suburbs - thanks. I may have someone to clean the chimneys and someone else to instal a stove, I hope.
