A few of my friends an I want to head away next summer and there seems to be a lot of lads going over to play gaa. Specifically we're thinking of going to San Francisco. From what I hear there is a number of teams out there. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with playing in the states an that would know the standard out there. I'm also curious as to how they assess your ability before agreeing that you can play?

The standard is pretty much junior/intermediate. If you play senior at home you'll get a start every game no problem. Actually that goes for jun/inter as well. You will get a start. Training is usually twice a week, with games on Sundays...followed by food and beer and hangovers.....
Also teams in denver, seattle, san diego, chicago philadelphia, boston new york florida.....
NA championships are held in september for the best of each regions....great weekend btw, I would advise going if your team does not make it anyway.

There are a couple of threads here on this. Perhaps they should be merged or it could even be a sticky.

I presume you're talking about football? The standard varies between cities, and who has the most money. I haven't been over for a couple of years, but Chigago had the most money, followed by Boston, then New York and San Fran when I was out.

If you wanted to play senior in Boston you'd normally want to be a county U21 or club senior player at least to get on the team. From what I'm aware the standard in San Fran is slightly below this.

How do they judge your ability? They'll probably guess. If you're on a good senior club side or a county U21 they'll hope that that will mean something. They'll have the odd contact back at home who'll suggest players to them as well.
