Selling my Golf GT

How are you lads? I've an 07 Golf GT TSI, 1.4, with 50,000 miles on it, great condition.

I want to sell it and was thinking about getting a Dacia Duster as I only drive it at weekends and some evenings...(that's for another thread!)

Where's the best place for me to sell it? DoneDeal or Carzone? Would I be mad to trade it in? I see it as a way to save a lot of time.

A Dacia Duster to replace a Golf GT..The opposite to a mid-life crisis.

You sure you are feeling okay OP

I'm in stitches in work here laughing. You're cracking me up. Am I mad? This isn't a troll by the way

Yeah you are very mad, your going from eating a nice filet steak to trying to eat a wellington boot, seriously.
Dacia Duster is a muck machine.
Why are you thinking of selling the golf?

But Donedeal is the best place to sell it.

Well I've had it new since 07 and wanted a change. Have a need for a jeep/A4 avant type vehicle but want to get something decent that will give me another 3/4 years of trouble free service. Golf has been flawless to date, haven't had a thing go wrong with it and it's great craic to drive, cheap to insure/tax etc.

I just wanted to get a jeep for the extra space and I just wanted to drive one around for a while really...was attracted to the Duster as it's got good reviews, loads of space for the dogs and i like the look of it.

    Happy for suggestions.

Even if there is Renault engine, who said they are bad ? Petrols and diesel engines are good.... but electronics is the problem.

I have my reservations about anything French..Especially Renault!!

Father had a 2000 1.9d megane back in 2000..replaced fan belt 22 times in 2.5 years, scrap yard after 3 years..Piece of s**t!!

AFAIK they are alot better these days though :D

    22 belts in 2.5 years ??

did you try change mechanic ? there was something wrong with pulley alignment., no need to be mechanic to understand this.

tbh these days market made for people to spend .. buy new thing or repair on regular basis, so we will see in 3 -4 years time is it really better.

old stuff was made to last long time, not like these days, just to get money off people.

Nowt really wrong with Renault Diesel engine to be fair.

OP tbh its not a terrible option considering its price point and equipment. Make sure you get the warranty and you should be pretty much spot on.

Best of luck. To me it looks like a reasonably good deal. Theyve been selling bucketloads of that model on the continent for years.

I was 8 at the time and my old man knows nothing about cars..

I totaly agree but that wasnt the only issue..I seem to remember the drivers seat being held down with tie wraps, truely terrible build quality to say the lease

Have a hatred for them ever since!

Spend the 16k on used Qashqai or Renault Koleos, OP. Basically the same thing with a better standard of trim

.....sorry, but BS. I've bought Renaults, both new & used, and could only compliment the wearing properties of the interior.

Methinks it was the nut behind the wheel..... ;)

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

That has to go down as the worst famous last words in history along side.

"sure let him invade poland, what's the worst he can do"

"Welcome to the street Mr West,i hope you and your wife enjoy your new house and spacious back garden"

"Fine Gael? Labour? sure they can't be any worse than the last shower"

This brand hasn't been sold in Ireland, so how can you possibly have relevant experience to make this criticism?

Take into account for example how many Renault taxis are on Irish roads in comparison to say..eh I don't know maybe any other make of car..

They don't take big miles at all!!

    Plenty of high Renaults around.

And I would seriously not take what a taxi driver buys as an indicator of a cats reliability. Usually has a lot to do with whichever dealer will finance it/give the best warranty.

Or what the local says down the pub ie petrol Toyota or diesel Skoda, but don't touch 'em Renaults....

Most of fleet of Irish cabs bought outside of manufacturer warranty time scale so dealer finance and best warranty not big factor for most of these taxi owners. Also very few Kia about as taxi and 7 year warranty with them.

That's why I mentioned finance before warranty...way I see it is a lot of the new drivers don't see it as their vocation and think of it as a source of easy income.

Cabs I see are usually under 5 years old, and very often I have to give directions to the house in a medium sized town. Doesn't give the impression of a professional driver

Most companys don't honour their warranty if they know the car is being used for public service reasons..back in the early 00's Renault certainly didn't

The Kia one (in the uk anyway) is 3 years or 100000 miles on a taxi.
