I love blondes, but I didnt like all the chasing after them, the flighty buggers:rolleyes:. They are serious animals. Remember a couple of bulls I had here probably 5 years back, one guy killed 70% and another 72% if memory serves me right, like thoroughbred race horses

Wiveton Indiana and Ganaway Jasper are two easy calving blonde bulls and are suitable for heifers.

Look very carefully at the fertility and milk figures. In my experience blondes are better as a terminal sire.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

yes blondes will let you down if you want compact calving as they will carry a bb calf for 300 days most of the time.

I love Kilmoney Bruce, he is not a giant big but super muscled bull, great top line and lovely head IMO .. I threatened ordering in straws last year but ill definitely do it this year!

Not much milk there and Kilmoney bruce has 5 stars for milk but only 14% reliability for it. OP you'd want to have lots of milk on the cow side to use these.

The blondes have never really taken off in Ireland. I suppose there's reasons why.

We have a few very good BAx cows, several are off Landais, who is gone now, 3 others were bought in but from a local farmer from good cows. They breed mainly super calves for us, none look like they will flood the place with milk but do a good job on the calf. I would use only on milky cows, and the gest lenght as mentioned above can be a pain, having said that some of the Lim cows are bringing plenty of time too.
Like a lot of things, I don't see them as a cure all breed but the right one can make a super cow.
Two BA bulls that would interest me although not cheap are Jockey (€25) and Tito (€40) both from powerful genetics. Jockey in particular could be a useful bull to have a few daughters off.

they have redone their website recently..the blonde society that is and have some offer on for lads that buy blonde..i think your pedigree registration fees are free or some such

We keep a herd of 50 pedigree blonde cows, and won best blonde herd in the country this year. There is a misconception that blondes are big mad leggy animals- some are, but you will have this within any breed. We keep all British Blonde cows which is very different to the french blonde. The. British blonde are softer fleshed, early maturing and extremely docile. Blondes are very easy calving and females are very sought after for breeding. Use fronfedw arrawan on heifers Blackwater Ainsley, Ark diego, kilmoney bruce for muscling. If you are looking for replacements use Druk lance, Blackwater Jockey or Edendale jigsaw and you wont go far wrong:-)

We have a couple of Blonde X Simm cows. Easy calving, loads of milk and very docile. The calves grow like wild fire with great shape.
Nothing like the purebred British Blonde herd you have but from a simple suckler herd they are proving their worth.

i was sculling saturday and a fella had a jet black calf that was from a Blonde from Eurogene, he thinks the straw got mixed up as she is the cut of a black lim heifer, nothing special but a good straight tall leggy animal, nice head .. would a blonde come that black from a blue grey bb X dam?

    cheers bob,

might make a nice heifer but nothing special and if anything if selecting as a suckler dam wouldnt you back a good black lim to have more milk:confused:

My money would be on the heifer being a Blonde alright.
Whether a BA or Lim would bring more milk would depend on what exact Blonde/Lim bull was used. The dam will have a big say too.

No cows off him. I'd say he's poor enough for milk. What are the dam's like? If they brought a good sup he could get by.

Did ya see Bruce in the video Doves had out a few years ago. He's a serious looking bull.

This is a KCE heifer of mine. She's very fine boned to my eyes & not very wide at the pin bone..
Maybe I have high standards though.

How do people find blonde for gestation length. Have cow due to calve to blonde bull and is gone over 290 days and still looks like wont calve for few more days. Meant make lovely cows that produce great calves.

In a word. Long. We'd see 300 days with some of them.

2500 seems too cheap for that bull?

Very nice looking bull. Probibly not for heifers as he looks big as blondes go but that could be the pictures. He dose seem cheep at that price I'd be looking at his feet very closely.
