sound probem

    have an ancient dell inspiron 1501.going ok considering.
    have problem listening to sound on videos.on the bottom right of screen on the volume control icon there is a small red circle wit a white x in the middle.when i put the arrow over it it says"NO AUDIO OUTPUT DEVICE IS INSTALLED"how would i go about solving this. thanks if anyone can help.

    Right "My Computer", click "Manage", and then click on "Device Manager" and reply back what has a red tick or an exclamation mark next to it. Sounds like your computer may just be lacking a sound driver.

    Also, what version of Windows do you have?

    model number is pp23La.windows vista.home basic.

    went into device manager an there is 3 things wit !! marks beside them


    1. 6T04 adaptor
    2. 6T04 adaptor
    3. isatap plus a massive long serial number

    If it was working previous to this in last few weeks do a system restore back to roughly when you had sound
