I never knew how vitamins were made until recently I became curious. I always felt sick anytime I took them so I wondered how they were made. There's a great article here on synthetic vitamins. http://www.naturalnews.com/036650_synthetic_vitamins_disease_side_effects.html
He rants and raves a bit but when you look past this he provides some good information. Of course, there's two sides to every story.
There are some companies that make whole food based vitamins. Megafoods and New Chapter are the ones I have come across. I started taking new chapter multivitamins and it's amazing the difference. I have great energy and can go longer at the gym. I don't get that sickly feeling taking these either and i can take them on an empty stomach because they are 100% food based.
I think most people just pop vitamins and don't realise how they are synthetically made and this was a real eye opener for me. Has anyone else switched to wholefood vitamins along with their healthy diet?

I've always been aware of different quality of vitamin supplements, There are varying degrees of purity and some are manufactured synthetically but I would never have thought of them as dangerous, only that the cheaper more synthetic ones will be less beneficial and most of the vitamin will just pass through the body.
I've used Centrum there last month, Just realised it has gelatin in it, so I won't use it again. Wasn't aware they are owned by Pfizer, But to say that because they're owned by Pfizer they'd be making you ill seems a bit a tin foil hat-ish.
I wouldn't say they are harmful, if anything maybe less "beneficial" , but not harmful?

I have to say, it does seem a bit far fetched that synthetic vitamins are really bad for you. But saying that, in my own experience, the synthetic ones didn't agree with me, which is unfortunate as they are a lot cheaper. The wholefood based ones are quite expensive but i'll try them for a month or two. I already eat a very healthy diet so the vitamins are just a boast for the winter months and the vitamin D3.

Well that's just it, Supplements are and always should be supplements. We should always try to get as much as we can from diet first.
