Not sure what im entitled to when IB expires?

I am currently on Illness benenfit and this is due to expire in December as my stamps have run out. I am on sick leave from work with a back injury. I am not sure what I may be entitled to.

My husband and I have recently seperated and he is living with his mother. He pays half the mortgage and bills and gives me 50 euro a week for our 2 small children (1 and 3).

I have applied for invalidity pension (as suggested in the letter from the SW informing me of the date when I will be cut off). My GP said that this will probably be declined as it is very hard to qualify for this even though my condition is ongoing and I am awaiting the results of an MRI.

Can I apply for Supplementary Welfare in the meantime or someone else suggested I apply for Lone Parent allowance? I am realy not sure what to do and any information on the SW website is just so confusing.

    Is anyone in similar circumstances.

    Thank you.

    A.

Yes you can apply for supplementary allowance while waiting for your pension claim to be looked at.

But will I qualify for it. Will they take my husbands earnings into account. We are not legally seperated he is living with his mother so I would not have any court documents to show them?

Invalidity pension is based on PRSI contributions, it is not a means tested payment.

Disability Allowance is another option, this is means tested so the maintenance you get from your husband would be taken into account.

You could also apply for the one parent family payment (need to be seperated for 3 months or more).

Have a look at www.citizensinformation.ie for the conditions associated with each payment

ETA - You could still work and retain the OPFP if you recovered enough to return to work at any stage

You could only work and retain OPFP if your earnings are <€425.
