Say you had no mortgage etc, what level of guaranteed for life weekly income would prompt you to give up work, I'd be happy with the shopping covered, a few cans and enough for a night out once/twice a week, maybe a little more to put aside as well, €400pw should do it for me.

    Why so modest?

1k a week should fulfill most of my dreams.

    500 a week

About 400 would be ok to maintain my current lifestyle but only if it adjusted for inflation. In 30 or 40 years time 400 euro could be a pittance.

€750 a week would do me very nicely indeed.

What do mean, "No mortgage, etc". Do I have to pay bills? Cos if not, I could easily get by on €200 a week to do a full grocery shop for the family, enjoy a takeaway one night a week, two nights in the pub and even put away a little for a holiday later on in the year.

From past experience, anything over 3k a month after all bills are paid was comfortable. So that works out at €692.31 a week.

If I had no bills to pay, €400 a week would be plenty.

I dunno if I would like to give up work.. I couldn't picture myself sitting around all day doing nothing. But 700-1000 would be reasonable a week for bills etc..

What are you confused about? Groceries: €100. Takeaway: €20. Two nights in the pub: €50. Savings: €30.

All bills are paid, so tax, insurance, petrol, heating, electricity, tv, internet, etc are looked after, right?

Even with bills looked after I couldn't live on €200 a week. You couldn't even have a family day out at the cinema or a meal in a restaurant without making a massive dent in your wallet.

couple of grand a week, if it included bills etc(no mortgage as per OP)in all seriousness. if i wasn't going to be working I'd want enough money to go on plenty of holidays, eat out a lot etc.

Actually I read the thread wrong. I assumed it was "how much could you live on".

All bills paid, I would give up work if someone handed me €400/week. I'd probably still "work", but volunteer work or something worthwhile that's very poorly paid.

I would need a ****load of money to give up my job. I would lose the head sitting around staring at the four walls in cold, wet Ireland.

Enough money to travel and entertain myself and the family (without drinking myself to death).

I'd be quite happy on €2500 per week.

I would continue to work no matter how much I had.

I wouldn't be able to sit around all day.

Even if I won €100m on the euromillions I would still work. (Maybe take a year off)

As opposed to sitting in an office listening to people you have no time or affection for.

If you cant sit around all day with €100 million in your bank account there is probably something wrong with you.

If you had €100m you wouldn't sit around all day. Your days would consist of driving places in your exceptionally expensive car to do fun things with your family.

Exactly. A few grand disposable a week would be nice!

It'd have to be enough not just to pay the bills etc, but also to entertain myself during all my time off. Right now I could easily survive on €188 per week, but I wouldn't really be able to afford to do anything with my time.

I'd say €400 per week too.

Depends on what you're volunteering to do. I'd spend all day at an animal shelter for nothing, but not an old folks' home or a homeless shelter.

I think not working would cause me to spend more money to keep myself occupied. After bills are paid I'd say 3-400 would be pretty comfortable. I'm getting about 400 a week at the minute but haven't the time to spend it.

I don't get this attitude at all - The whole point of playing the lotto is to win enough money so you wouldn't ever have to work again!

Being rich doesn't mean you have to sit around all day doing nothing. The Euromillions would be wasted on someone who would just turn up for work again the next day. What's the point in staying in a job, when it could go to someone who actually needs it??

    1k/week

We all don't love work but without a job you would go mental without the human contact. At least with that money you could do something to make the days go by.

In order not to bored off my head, i'd want enough to be able to cover entertainement for 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year.

    2000 a week and i'd consider it.

Anything less than that and i'd be bored off my head and feeling like a sorry useless sack of crap.

I think there are plenty of things you could still do that would barely cost anything, like take up running or cycling, learn an instrument. Stuff like that. Even if you had money, if all of your friends were at work, there's not a lot you could spend your money on and still not feel bored after a few weeks.

agree totally, if you've X amount of millions your life is as fun or boring as you make it.
