Short term insurance

    Guys,

When I lived in Ireland, I had a Skoda taxed & insured in my name. When I moved back to Aus, I gave it to my brother in law. We changed the tax & insurance etc to him.

I am going to be back in Ireland for xmas & he is going to let us use the car.

Do I need to get my own short term ploicy to cover me driving it or do I need him to make me a named driver on his policy? What if his wife is already a named driver? How many can you have?

    Thanks

Get him to add you as a named driver. You can have many named drivers.

Thanks, I'll have a word to him.

Do I need to prove I have insurance over here for my car in Aus or anything?

You are being added to his policy, all I would imagine you need is your current valid driver's licence. Get your brother to ask his insurance company first though.

    Cheers, thanks for the info.

All the insurance company need is your nationality/dob/licence number and how long you'll need to be added.

They will probably want some cash too.

It might work out cheaper to get yourself added as a permanent additional driver as opposed to a temporary additional driver (just make sure your bro takes you off the policy once you're back in OZ).
