Hi all, a few of us have decided to work abroad for a few years. Toronto seems to be where we are most likely going.

I just have a few questions:

    1. I am ACCA qualified(hopefully, doing last exam Monday) but do I need to apply for membership with the Canadian body. Will my qualification be recognised.

    2. How hard is it to get work at the moment. What is the likely wage for a newly qualified accountant over there from Ireland. I've heard you can get taken advantage of and get a poor enough salary. I don't have a big name behind me but I got plenty of experience and expertise which I could offer a company(worked in a fairly varied company)

    3. Budget wise, I am hoping to have 5k pulled together. Is this enough.

    4. Is LinkedIn very important. My employer is on it and don't want to be doing too much as I have not informed him.

    5. Best area to live in.

    Thanks for any help.

I cant speak for the accountancy questions but with regards to 3)5k would be enough for 3-4 months in Toronto, more if you get somewhere cheap to rent
    4) LinkedIN is very, very important
    5) Depends on where you will be working and what you can afford

Is Linked In very big over there? Did you get a job from it?
