I believe they are using the Dublin City Council/JCDecaux system as a template as it worked out so well and is one of the most successful systems in europe.

It has been very successful, but the downside is that it is relatively expensive to install and maintain.

Cheaper systems have now been developed and are being very successfully used in the US and Canada.

But the biggest reason for it's success in Dublin was that it is basically free. It needs to be the same in Cork, etc. to be just as successful, but the major issue is how do you fund it. The Dublin system was funded by advertising, but the ad market has dried up with the recession.

I hope that the Dublin Bikes card will work in Cork, etc. and vice versa and also that eventually they will all work with Leap card.

The JC Decaux system is not seen as being a viable model for the other schemes. In Galway a charge per use model is one of the options being considered.

It will fail so. The reason the Dublin system works so well, because it is free. Charge for it and people won't bother.
