    Hi there ,

New to the forum so excuse me if this has been mentioned before somewhere else but i can't see a recent post about it.
I currently sub in a secondary school and have my PGDE and am registered with the council. I am finding it difficult to get a full time post but that is the lot of most newly qualified teachers here in this country , so i take whatever work i can get.

I am slightly annoyed though because there is a teacher in my school who i am pretty sure doesnt have a PGDE. She is subbing quite a few classes here and there. I was under the impression that a school couldn't employ a person if they had no PGDE and was not qualified. Do you not have to be registered with the TC to get paid? im slightly confused and a little annoyeed because there are plenty of qualified people looking for work out there.

I didnt want to broach this subject in the staff room because tbh she is a nice girl and i don't want to create bad blood.

    Anyone else encounter this situation?

as far as Im aware you have to be qualified and registered to get full payment, this person must be getting paid the unqualified rate....a school is only meant to employ an unqualified person if they cant get a qualified one (as far as I know anyway)

Hmm okay thanks for reply . I assumed there was not supposed to be any unqualified pay anymore though hence why I'm confused .

Sorry for jumping onto the thread. I am wondering about the unqualified part-time rate €36.76 and qualified part-time rate €40.10.

I am a NQT and has conditional registration with Teaching Council based on doing the 12 Workshops and 300 hours. I looked at my payslip there, I am getting €36.76. I didn't any notice until now as I'm just grateful to be getting subbing. Should I be getting the €40.10 or am on the €36.76 because I am on the conditional registration?

    Thanks

Maybe she is registered with the teaching council but doesn't have the PGDE. Teachers working within the VEC system didn't have to have one previously. And you say you are only 'pretty sure'. You are not sure, you have no idea what her qualifications are at all. All conjecture on your part.

But I would say this: however unfair you might think it is, if you start bitching about the hours she gets in the staff room without knowing the full story and it gets back to management, you can kiss your hours goodbye.

Oh and Thanks for the replies guys . I just thought that the TC had implemented Section 30 this year and no teacher could get paid from state if unqualified. However as Rainbow Trout has said it is all conjecture on my part spin best be careful . Thought I'd ask here though . Cheers

Even when the Section 30 is implemented those without the PDE who are already registered for the VEC sector will continue to be paid so long as they keep renewing their registration.

I assumed Section 30 had been implemented . I remember receiving a letter in relation to it .

I can't say for certain, but the information on the TC website says:

"The Minister for Education and Skills has confirmed his intention to bring section 30 into law in the 2012/2013 school year. A specific date will be announced closer to the time but it is likely to be in the first term of the 2012/2013 school year."

Either way, it will have no effect on those already registered, whether or not they have their PDE done.

You could always search their name on the register and see if it says "Post Primary Full" or " Post Primary VEC Sector Only" if you really want to know.

I guess I always assumed you couldn't register with TC if unqualified . Teaching Council wrecks my head anyway . Racket

Its not been implemented yet. It was suppose to come in last month but no sign of it. Even when this comes in those who are unregistered can still get paid if the principal says it was the only option available.
