I failed my test yesterday (2 Blue 1 Red). I have booked a cancellation which means in 3 weeks I may be offered a test. Just wondering if the weather is good what dates do they not do tests around Christmas? Thanks I'm so eager to pass the thing. My red was so stupid its killing me.

Bit OT but just out of curiousity...
Do they cancel a driving test if there is snow on the roads?

Absolutely. They wont do any tests with snow around.

They will even cancel tests for heavy fog, and other harsh conditions.

Hmm I wonder how is that?
If someone is unable to pass a test in more difficult conditions, then how would that person be able to drive in this more difficult conditions afterwards?

turn on the ignition, put it into first and drive?

It would be massively unfair though on people who have to drive in poor conditions. They'd be asked to do a far harder test than everybody else.

That depends on a way you look at it.

Conditions are never the same anyway.
Someone might have a test on friday afternoon in huge traffic while other person will have a test on empty streets.
One person is doing test in some rural town with few junctions and one set of traffic lights, while other person is doing the test in Dublin city centre.
One person might be doing test in nice sunny weather, while other will do it heavy rain.
I wouldn't hesitate to do my test on snow, and actually one of the tests I had to pass was on the snow.

But I understand it all depends on mentality.
In Ireland snow on the roads is very rare occurance, and therefore people are not used to it, and don't know how to drive on it.
For above reason driving test on the snow is not a good idea I suppose, while on the other hand it will surely not help Irish people to learn to drive on snow.

In Poland in the winter time, snow on the roads wouldn't be a reason to cancel a driving test for car or truck or bus. (for motorbike it would).
But probably heavy rain and some floods, during which test would proceed in Ireland, would cause a test to be cancelled in Poland.

So every country and it's drivers have their own specific way of dealing with unusual conditions.

It was snowing (but not sticking on the ground) when I did my test. Started after we left the test center and the tester didn't even mention it. It started sticking just after my test and so the big freeze of 2009 started!
