Mid-Season Finale SPOILER discussion - i.e. MAJOR SPOILERS within!!!!!

So the spoilers for the mid-season finale are all over the web and im sure some of you in boards land love spoilers, so if anyone wants to discuss them here is the place! i have to say i'm thoroughly underwhelmed by them. I suppose after the Lori/T-Dog episode it was a bit much to expect major deaths and action but i did at least expect a Dixon showdown - and this won't be happening.

    Major events:
Oscar dies saving the group (no great surprise)
Merle and Daryll don't come face to face
Glenn and Maggie don't get rescued and are at Woodbury still post-episode
Michonne and Penny come face to face (doubt that will end well)
Tyreese is introduced at the end of the episode

As a non-comic reader the introduction of Tyreese isn't a major thing for me. And after the Michonne hype and subsequent let-down i won't be expecting too much from him anyway.

The lack of a Dixon showdown is a major disappointment after they built towards it all season and it'll be a long wait for February to eventually see it.

The following is NOT a spoiler but a theory i've seen on another site. If Michonne kills Penny, then i'm sure the Guv will seek revenge. We already saw with Maggie his penchant for sexual weirdness, so perhaps this event would be the cue for the tv show to go through with the comic book storyline of Michonne & the Gov?

I suppose the mid-season finale sets things up nicely for the rest of the season in that some major things like the Dixon reunion are still to come but it's a bit of an anticlimax they wont come face to face next week.

Added spoiler tags, just to double-bag it.

    Just in case.

(Hard to do without reading it too....)

why did you only spoiler the one line sentences, but not the discussion of them underneath?

I don't mind, as I came in to read it all anyway, but if you are going to put tags around spoilers, at least be consistent

As a non-comic reader the introduction of Tyreese isn't a major thing for me. And after the Michonne hype and subsequent let-down i won't be expecting too much from him anyway.

Michonnes was hyped up because she was a badass with a sword not because she was a particularly well rounded character in the comics , While its fair to say she was a little less scowly initially in the comics events soon transpired that would see her become the Scowler we all know and rolleyes at . Assuming they don't have anything traumatic happen to her I can see her going the opposite route and have her soften up Daryl Style over the course of a season or so. I believe they're called character arcs . Tyreese could go either way a lot of the ground his character covered in the comics has been tread already in the show so the writers will be breaking new ground there most likely.
The lack of a Dixon showdown is a major disappointment after they built towards it all season and it'll be a long wait for February to eventually see it.

Assuming the spoilers are correct looks like they are holding back some of the juicy stuff for the second half of the season , which is something id be pissed of with ordinarily as it smacks of season 2 only for the fact that unlike in that season we haven't had to sit through 4-5 filler episodes to get to the Sophie reveal.

I think the Scene with Maggie is the closest we'll get to that scene tbh , Michonnes is broke enough if what happened to her in the comics happens she would become even more surly which surely can't be the plan.

Good points, the strength of this season does make up for it somewhat, i guess it's more a case of disappointment that daryll will be in Woodbury and not come across Merle. seems a tiny bit silly given it seems a pretty small place.

I don't mind if Michonne stays scowly but at least offer anything else as a character other than her sword would be nice!

if you are referring to the spoilers , the thread title has SPOILER and MAJOR SPOILERS within and 5 exclamation points, so i would ask what is wrong with you clicking into the thread if you didn't want to see them.

No I'm referring to why you discussing any of this at all. Can you not wait one week and enjoy as it was originally intended by its creators?

personal choice i suppose but i've always tended to do things backwards, sometimes i read in depth movie reviews including spoilers before going to a film but for me even knowing what is coming doesn't detract from the enjoyment of whats on screen.

I suppose it's the mentality difference between people who likes their Xmas pressies a surprise and those who want to know what they are a week early!!

I don't agree with that Xmas metaphor to be honest. An xmas present is a tangible commodity. You can still enjoy it after you know what it is. A film or TV show is an experience, one that is designed to be digested in sequence. Take Shutter Island for example, its a completely different viewing the second time. There is zero suspense or tension. If I know I'm getting a guitar for christmas, it changes nothing. I'll still have the guitar.

Fair enough if you prefer to do things like that, but I think you are detracting from the utility you can get from a medium by viewing it not as intended by the author.

This has nothing to do with your thread. I'll stop now

And this is why you shouldn't take speculation seriously.

so true. I used to do the same with Lost, there was this mole called Lostfan108 who used to have incredibly accurate scoops that came straight from the scripts. But sometimes shows are clever, all it takes is Glen Mazarra or someone in his team giving the Spoil the Dead forum some false spoilers, they go viral, and the integrity of the episode stays in tact!!
