Thanks u-fig, looks good. Are the cpu and gpu a proven combo, do they work well together? Have you ever ordered from hardwareversand? Are they ok with visa debit? Sorry for so many questions

    Hi Mate

You don't need anything of high value to attend the needs you have, So would you not just opt for a pre build machine? Do is this just for the hobbie/challenge

The cpu and gpu work well together. HWVS are very reliable, most if not all of the regulars of building and upgrading have ordered from them in the past. The crux is that you need to pay by bank transfer, sounds dodgy, but it's fine, and they make the process fairly painless by providing all of the information quickly and all in one email. You can pay by credit card with them, but there is I think a 3% extra charge, so bank transfer is good.

Yes but we have some serious gamers in this house, between my son and i. I've had my fair share of pre built machines and they were always overpriced and dissapointing. Over the years ive upgraded my desktops with drives/ graphics cards/ram/psu's etc. The next step for me is building my own and im ready to try but i wanna know all the possible hiccups before i start. Plus I stopped keeping up the pc hardware years ago so its a lot of info to absorb.

You're right to be building your own. You'll get a lot more pc for your money, you'll learn a lot, know what to do if anything goes wrong, and have fun building it!

    Hi Mate

Well then there no better experience than practical. I 'v build alot of computer over the past few years but i haven't had any dealings with hardwareversand, i mainly use Scan and Overclockers. The biggest single upgrade with the difference is the SSD Mate so i recon getting a half decent one.

Thanks all for the replies. What do ye think of this ssd? http://lb.hardwareversand.de/Solid-State-Disk/56865/Samsung+SSD+830+64GB+SATA+6GB%27s+Basic.article

Am i right in saying I only need windows and the and the more graphics hungry games on the ssd? If so id say 64gb would be loads.

that's the recommended SSD brand but i'd nearly wait save a bit and get the 128GB model of the Samsung... i have that exact SSD in my HTPC and i have to say it fills up fast... 64GB might be enough for 1 or 2 games.. i can fit windows and programs on mine and about 4 HD films and it's uncomfortably full like having to transfer before Downloading something...now my films are about 8GB each... it's up to you really. you could drop to a 500GB hdd and put that towards a bigger SSD

I see where you're coming from but i'm stretching it all ready so i'll chance 64gb. All my movies are under 1.5gb anyway. I'm going to go with your list + ssd, thanks for all the advice. Anything i should watch out for during the build? Also do i need a fan for the cpu?

If you are not overclocking the stock CPU heatsink will be fine.. It may be noisy tho but with a gpu you're looking at a lot of fan noise usually anyway..if your budget is stretched already i'd say leave it and upgrade later if you need to for whatever reason..just be careful installing the CPU not to touch the bottom as you can damage it. Just be careful think twice do once.. You should be grand the CPU heatsink from intel already has thermal paste on it..apart from that you can add fans to the case.. I'm not sure if that case comes with them.. Get it up and running and do some tempature tests to see..

Oh and good luck with the build and if ya have Any hiccups let us know :D

If you're giving yourself the option of overclocking, you should install an aftermarket cpu cooler now, instead of having to take everything apart when you decide to overclock. Apart from that, everything looks good, very similar build to mine actually. You'll need one extra SATA cable too (and an Irish power lead).

With regards to the SSD, I recently moved my steam installation from my SSD to my 7200rpm HDD and I cant say I notice much difference in load times, its fast either way. I've heard that games with large open worlds benefit a lot though (GTA, Skyrim, etc.). Either way it boots much faster with the SSD

Do you think I would be better off ditching the case fan for a cpu cooler? Any recommendations for a cpu cooler

If you ever intend on overclocking then yes, though that case comes with just one rear exhaust fan, it wouldn't be any harm to get an extra one. What i did was install a 120mm intake fan at the front but its up to you. Case fans are easy to install at a later date if you prefer.

I cant recommend you any but have a look through the topsellers for one you like that supports socket 1155:

You are wasting money on a more expensive motherboard and cpu if you do not overclock.

If you overclock it's money will spent but you will need a non stock cpu cooler.

This has got good review and is at a very reasonable price.
