Hi folks, My issue is with the above make n model of car, 1.4 opel astra G 02 hatchback. The wife had to get car insurance recovery out twice to start it for her in the morning. Hasn't noticed any lights on dash to indicate failing/failed alternator. Its running now again and she didn't say if it cuts out or not when driving. Could it just be that it needs a new battery or it could easily be alternator eve though no warnings of it? Any ideas

Most likely battery - the first spell of cold weather kills off lots of batteries that are getting on a bit. It's relatively easy to test the alternator in situ - with the engine running at a fast idle there should be close to 14.4 volts across the battery terminals, even with headlights etc on.
