    Hi all

Long story short: burned the driver's seat of my car yesterday with a lamp. See the attached photo.

Any ideas if this can be removed easily? Has anyone any tips on restoring leather or know any experts in the Dublin area who could fix this??

    Cheers!

    Burn the rest.

    That'll learn it.

OK am I the only one who thought that pic was something else when I opened it?

Anyway, burn the rest of your car out to match it, that's my advice.

Looks like a lot of friction going on down there. Raw hide?

I read somewhere once that if you get 4 or 5 different people to take a piss on it than it'll get rid of any marks once you use one of those metal scrubbing brushes to rub the area while they do it.

How did you manage to burn leather with a lamp?

Doing work on the car, it was dark, leaned back on the lamp at some point.

For a sec, I thought I was looking at someones burnt ass.

You won't get the marks off without going to a professional.

Think of leather as skin, that doesn't heal. You burn your own skin, swear the house down and bitch for a few days but it heals up. Leather only does the burn part.

And you picture looks like someones arse.

Rub a new born calf on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭franktheplank

Having you tried rubbing your tummy while you pat your head?

Failing that I'd try posting in the classic car section of motors, a lot of people there would have repaired leather car upholstery.

You can remove it, but you'll have to be very careful. Get yourself a rubber sanding stone, the finest grade you can buy and use that on it.

Replace 'burn' and 'leather' with 'skid' and 'toilet' I reckon

That's the leatheriest arse I've ever seen. Teach whoever that is to wipe properly.

Thinking about it a bit more, something like a spray-on or coating of the correct colour on the affected area might be the best solution here??

    Me too!

When I read the original post I thought is said remove bum marks from a leather seat. The attached Picture only added to my confusion

The only thing I can think of is bleaching the area and it might end up the same colour as the surrounding area.

A job for professionals I would say.

Ardent, you should probably post your question in Motors instead. Plenty of people there have had and sorted similar issues.

Thanks for this great advice. I bought some wet & dry paper from Halfords (1500 grit) and was able to gently sand the burns out. You wouldn't notice it now.

I want those leather seats, don't care if I don't get the car with them, the leather seats on their own will make me happy
