Hi, we purchased our house 4 years ago. Build was in 1987 and the oil burner was put internally in utility room. I'm currently using a Reillo 40 burner which does the job fairly well, however due to noise/odour i'm considering changing to an external burner. The utility is next to garage and external burner would be about 15ft from existing Unit.

Question is, roughly how much would this cost?? I assume I might need a new pump etc so I'm kind of just trying to gauge if the switch would be worth it.

    Thanks

You say the utility room is next to the garage, would you consider moving the exiting boiler into the garage?

If you want to put the boiler outside you need to consider whats in the way of the pipes.
is the boiler located on an external wall?
will you need to dig up foot paths, paving, tarmac etc. ?
do you need to put in a base for the boiler?
will you need to run a new oil pipe?
you will need to run the condensate to a drain or soakaway

To do it properly you need to run district heating pipe (zero loss) this is around €50 per meter plus about €120 for fittings
    new outside boiler €1100-€1400
    new wiring and ducting
fire valve, pipe fittings, safety valve, circ pump and valves frost stat.

Sorry I cant give you the complete price I am sure someone will fill in the gaps shortly

you should not have either excessive noise or smell from internal boiler it might be worth getting your local oftec service engineer to have a look at it for you maybe a good service would solve your problems

smell may be coming from leak in hydraulic jack for opening air damper
    common problem but easy fix

agreed and should be done regardless of moving the boiler being moved in the future as any oil leak is nod good specially indoors, and if the odour is from leaking combustion gasses it could be dangerous or lethal in the case of carbon monoxide

If the boiler is the original one it could be loud enough, even with out even allowing for motor bearing or pump noises.

Personally I am not a fan of boilers in utility rooms

Thanks guys... Odour is from an old leak but can't get at it to clean up properly as its behind the boiler. I get it serviced every year and have 2 carbon mon sensor alarms in the utility. I hadn't considered the garage. It's attached to utility so there wouldn't by too much hassle pipe wise. Thanks again for the advice

Did you ever get a price to move your internal boiler outside?

It really depends on the work that's involved in the job
