BTEA after being made redundant questions

    Hi All,

I'm due to be made redundant, and can anyone tell me, that once you are made redundant you don't have to be unemployed for 6 months to qualify for BTEA?

Some people are telling me that you still have to be out of work for 6 months (they were even told by social welfare office).

One of my ex colleagues (also made redundant) has told me that this does not apply once you are made redundant you can just go straight onto a course in the september (as she did) and get her weekly payment. She even told me that they told her in the social welfare office that she would have to be out of work for 6 months, and she said she didn't take any notice of them, because she had been told she would qualify.

I'm just trying to make sure I will be covered. I will be made redundant in July and I'm hoping to start a course in Septmber.

    Thanks in advance

If you have been awarded statutory redundancy and are entitled to a qualifying social welfare payment immediately before you start the course (note that it is not necessary to actually be receiving the payment) you can get immediate access to the BTEA without any waiting period. You must take part in the BTEA scheme within one year of getting statutory redundancy.

I will be awarded both statutory redundancy, and redundancy from the company I am working for. I'm waiting to hear back from the college about applying for September 2013. The requirement is Fetac Level 5 or "equivalent" and it's the equivalent that is a concern for me. I would have done the old NCVA exams and London Chamber of Commerce exams, and I am thinking that it's a "portfolio" that they require.

I'm hoping I will be successful in this, it's really a course I would like to do.
