Well, despite you calling us morons, I will try to help :P

Flights to Antalya are not as easily found as to the Aegean Region (Izmir/Bodrum). But there are options.

So, you can either go package - Sunworld go to Antalya, but I think most of the resorts are in Alanya, which might not suit. Alanya is more traditionally a package holiday resort, whereas Antalya is somewhere that well heeled Turks also go. There are some fabulous, out of this world, hotels in Antalya. Sunworld are Thomas Cook, so they also fly via Belfast. So that might also be an option. We have gone to Turkey via Belfast twice and price wise, even when you add in the travel and parking its still sometimes cheaper than flying from Dublin or Cork. Its just inconvenient for us, so we tend to avoid it if we can.

If you want to go flight only, first of all, you don't fly to Ankara - there are no direct flights from Ireland to Ankara. You need to go via Istanbul. To do this you have a few options - Turkish Airlines is one, you can book Dublin - Istanbul - Antalya with them on the one ticket and get your bags sent through the whole way. Or you can go Turkish Airlines to Istanbul and then use various carriers to get to Antalya - but you will have to collect your bags and re-check in. Also be careful you are flying into and out of the same airport - there are two in Istanbul at different ends of the city.

If you are really keen on a bargain, and don't mind several transfers, then you can also try lufthansa via Germany, or get a flight to Amsterdam, Germany or Paris and then get a flight to Antalya with airlines like Condor, Pegasus or Sunexpress. You might even find a German or Dutch site that has an English version of their site that does packages to Antalya. Then a cheap flight to Germany or Holland, and onwards from there.

Skyscanner is a good site for checking what options of airlines are available.

Antalya is gorgeous - not your usual package holiday spot. Very different to Kusadasi or Gumbet, or Alanya - it tends to get a good mix of international guests, not just Irish and English or even just European. You get a lot of Turks, Russians, Middle Eastern visitors also. The hotels are amazing - really some of the best in Turkey.

Having said all that, if the thoughts of multiple transfers puts you off, may I suggest Cesme. It is in the Aegean region, close to Izmir. Aer Lingus fly direct to Izmir and you can get cheap flights if you book at the right times (eg we are going in May and flights were €150 return with a checked in bag each). Cesme is similar to Antalya - upmarket, classy, relaxed. Beautiful spot, really nice. I really like it there.

If it were me, I would either go package via the UK or Germany to Antalya or direct flight with Aer Lingus to Izmir and book an apartment in Cesme.
