Wait a minute.....why is he letting on he's selling it for €4500....it's actually €9000?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

You have to pay the €1500 fine and then pay the VRT. So €6000 plus VRT means he's only losing €1500 on the whole episode.

Which isn't bad for 6 months driving on a fairly new car considering that tax would have been €300 alone.

It should really say , will some sap pay my fine for me

V true, its 6k straight away and then they have to VRT it.

He has the car in the country for 6 months so he should have VRT'd it anyway.

Not sure I would fall for it.

Worth noting that you can't exactly take it for a test drive before handing over the €1500

Had been trying to sell it 2 months ago

I was wondering about that too.......... "Please Mr. Revenue, just around the block, I promise I'll come back!"

Car has an NI reg, is impounded in Rosslare, and he lives in Clare. Something does not add fully in my head. I'd run a mile from any such drama to be honest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,718 ✭✭✭Matt Simis

Wonder which government body impounded it? When one of my cars was impounded it, it went to the Garda impound yard in Tallaght (which is near Revenue anyhow) and it stacks up a daily charge. So Im wondering if his prices will keep sliding up.

NI Reg means nothing at all, its not an Irish reg thats it. Would Scottish Reg make a diff?
Impounded in Rosslare as either Revenue have a larger, long term facility there or maybe he was in that area when seized. Where you live and where its impounded have no connection (as above, I dont live anywhere near Tallaght!).

I wouldnt be put off by the story (has to be quite common these days?) however I wouldnt be remotely interested in the hassle for something as cookie cutter as 320d.

    Hey everyone,

I put this advert up, its the only way i can think of getting out of the mess. Dont know why people that come on boards.ie have to judge someone so much like they have nothing better to do with there lives.

I have it up as €4500 and i have explained clearly the situation surrounding this mess i am in and how much it will eventually cost the buyer. Plus, i do not expect to get €4500 as people are going to haggle.

So far i have had 10 people ring me and 6 texts interested in doing this, i have also had people who have seen this thread texting me and phoning me giving me abuse, if i receive any more i will be reporting the numbers for harassment.

Just giving my point of few, i will post again if it works :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23 colinceltic

Plus i work in Clare, but I am originally from Wexford and was back in Wexford visiting family when it was seized. Customs in Wexford are based in Rosslare, hence the reason it is in Rosslare.

revenue officer i am dealing with is fairly sound, asked him could i sell it this way and he said yeah but he has to be in the car on any test drive

Just out of curiosity Colin, what way would the car be insured for a test drive under those circumstances?
I mean, if Revenue have seized posession of the vehicle, surely any loss or damage to or from the vehicle would be on their head while it is in their care?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,069 ✭✭✭✭CiniO

Is it not illegal to sell a car registered abroad in Ireland?
I though person importing had to pay vrt and register it here before he could sell it.

the person taking it for a test drive will have to have insurance which allows them to drive other cars. do you lot have nothing better to be doing than putting stupid posts trying to dis credit someone on boards.ie?

the vrt can be paid directly to them in Rosslare so its not illegal to sell it this way

I assume vrt will have to be paid by yourself, one you get a cash from buyer.

Confused here? Price in Buy and Sell was €7000?

They do from what I understand also unless they are a dealer.

Out of interest, why was the advert in buy and sell removed there?
Why is the car advertised for 4500 when in facts its double that?
Why haven't you VRT'd the car before this?
If you have received so many texts and calls about the car this time, what happened in the intervening 58 days from when the ad went on DD.

    I asked a simple question,which you answered.
    What's the problem?

you joined boards.ie to answer the questions, the OP asked us the question and we are answering it.
We have seen many many scams on adverts for cars so its not dising, its ensuring that someone isn't scammed.

With all due respect Colin it sounds like a very pertinent and relevant question to me, how does that question discredit you? If you don't like answering questions like that well I wish you best of luck with the sale.

no it wasnt it was €7000 or nearest offer. Which realistically would of been €6000

a lot of the information is incorrect that it is being posted. yes i am going to scam someone even they have to come to government offices with me. It would be different if i took the money, promised the car and then they never see me again. They are going to be coming with me to revenue rosslare.

Colin, sorry you have found yourself in such a predicament, equally sorry that your business failed. It looks a nice car, I genuinely hope you can find a buyer. Unfortunately I find the whole matter a bit confusing. Best wishes

1.Buy and sell ad was removed because it doesn't have the same information explaining the situation as the donedeal one.

    2. Why do someone people put adverts up for €1 when it is never €1? The full price is explained in the advert

    3. If you read the advert properly you will see. Business went belly up so couldnt afford it in the end.

    4. Revenue has it since 16th september, have tried to get money to pay them but this is my last option.

I am a decent guy, who is in a mess, and cannot see any other way out. So give me a break.

if you think its a scam, that is your opinion and what you have written is actually against boards.ie rules because it is a lie and defamatory.

As i explained this will be done at revenue offices in Rosslare. I am not expecting to receive any money before the car is released by revenue to the buyer.

yes, as you can see in the donedeal ad, i was trying to sell it because i could not afford the VRT,but revenue seized it before i could sell it.

That's what I reckoned, just clarifying it for those that didn't read the whole lot.

Colin, I do have some sympathy for the stressful situation you've found yourself in.
I believe the ad on DD probably wouldn't have come to our attention if the price on the bottom read €9,000.
I genuinely wish you luck with the sale.

Believe me Colin its not against the boards.ie rules, but its against the "rules" to import a car into the country without VRT'ing it.

Car for sale, new reg is the seller, newer reg gives out abuse. I can see a closure on this thread.
