Shear grab on a loader here, not much forking either, passages are wide so I push in the remaining silage with the grab on the second day. I think the diet feeder is still a long way off, and the more diesel goes up the less likely it is that I'll ever get one.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Basic setup here, Shear Grab putting pit silage into a feeding passage (then nuts in the parlour).

I use the grab to shove in the silage then, I leave it in a low gear, so not as much clutching, but even still its certainly alot of fowards and backwards on the shuttle (which is a fully manual shuttle ). What I'm 1/2 thinking of doing is making the scraper we have multi-purpose (which is one of these http://www.donedeal.ie/for-sale/otherfarmmachinery/4226014), one of the sides is bent anyways, so I might chop it off straight, and re-attach another similar (but longer) plate, which is hinged on, so as you can turn the whole side to say 45deg, and use that edge to push in the silage. Hard to know how well it will work, but

Tractor with shear grab an 3 point linkage .Getting fed up of all the forking of silage .Im thinking of investing in a loader and diet feeder it would take alot of the hard out of feeding cattle.

Small old international loader with shear grab here , no cab or comforts but it does the trick and very light on diesel

    MF 290 and bale spike

Have been thinking of getting a tine grab for the loader, would a tine grab be any good for feeding bales when the net and plastic would removed ?

Is anyone using a tine grab to feed bale silage?

Skid steer with shear grab. Drops the block right in front of their heads, no pushing in, bit of shaking out with fork.

Problem with the tines is if the tines are too short the bale can fall off. A long spike is useful to hold the bale

terex 860 with 5ft mchale sheer grab. have used the bucket the odd time but i find that lumps can fall out of that and are wasted + the shear grab cuts it into nice blocks. push the silage in aswell with the shear grab and thankfully hardly any waste ever but i put that down too putting 3 sheets on the pit ever year.

Jesus, that's a fierce amount of work for one bale!
I have open shed, with straw bedding. I use round feeder(old-school!):)
Really easy though. Take off wrap, position bale over feeder, cut netting and drop in.
Only have to fork the middle out of it on occasion.
    Waaaay faster than the video...:D
Thought about external feed passage on slats, but that just put me off!

Lads anybody using the Keltec or Tanco round bale unwrappers?

How are they working for ye?

Tractor & loader with bale handler front & rear. Loader only used when moving bales along road or occasional bale in round feeder in early winter / spring. Only started a couple of times per week this time of year.

Usually use 2wd tractor without loader for feeding in shed as more manoeuvrable & economical than one with loader. Rear handler used for feeding in the shed. Just roll the bale along with the handler. Bale usually does 2-3 pens.

Watch out for cattle sticking heads out when reversing tho.

I think grumpy was giving them in a bale to eat at milking time in that video there are no cows in the shed.

When the cows are in full time I put in five bales at a time and then just give it a shove in every so often

@ tipp man are you looking to get rid of a big windfall r what:D:D:D

not far off cow were only in at night if they wanted to then so had to spread the bale over the whole shed. by the time they are usually in full time we are on pit silage so it's much quicker
