VW Bora door won't open?

I have an '02 VW Bora comfortline and the back door on the passenger side won't open. The passenger door can be a bit contrary at times as well and not open but at least it opens when you play around with it.

It's due an NCT and it will fail unless I resolve this issue. Has anybody come across anything like this before? If so what was the problem and how did you get it resolved?

I'm in Dublin so if anybody knows anybody who has experience with anything like this let me know.

    Thanks a million,
    Daniel.

    Try this.
Unlock the doors. From the outside pull out the handle fully and then hit the part where the key would go in if it was the front door and gentle but firm tap with your hand.

It may not work but this is what my mate had to do with his old golf.

This is probably a fault in the electronic module that controls the door lock. The solder joints have a tendency to crack causing erratic behaviour. While the other three are working, I'd remove them and reflow the solder joints.

In your case it sounds like it's not deactivating the deadlocking system. Try cycling the locks a few times and see if that makes a difference.

If not, you'll need to pull off the door card and see if you can get the lock to work from inside the door. Wiggling the electronic module around might get enough contact on the joints to pop the lock open and allow you do a proper repair. Worst case, you'll have to break the lock to remove it.

It's the back passenger door so the key doesn't go in this door. Thanks for your help though.

Thanks for that. Sounds like a lot of hard work and I'm not the best with cars. Would you know anywhere I could get this done in Dublin and roughly how much it would cost?

It could be a cable or rod that came loose either although these are known for the problems with the solder.

Take the door card off and near the back near the catch you will see a small hole with a tiny torx screw. Loosen and remove outer handle cover. Where the key would usually go. Reset the ratchet and cable should open the door. Common problem when door wont open
