2008 Passat - Good deal?

Not great deal no, I got a 2.0 140bhp tdi for around 10k in Jan this year, it had 75k miles though with service history and was imported from the UK. 1.6 fsi would not be a good engine for that car at all, avoid like the plague.

    Any views on this car?

There's a baby on the way and so I've taken previous advice from this forum and moved away from A4's and 3 Series to Passats. Been for a test drive in a few and seem like decent cars to me but I'm far from a petrol head!

Are there any warning signs I should be looking out for?

Baby & cream interior??? Obviously your first

I know a friend of mine bought one that year with that engine. He almost lost the will to live he hated that car so much. One of the slowest cars you can buy yet not economical in any way.

Owned one. Total piece of ****. Avoid.

Why does having a baby mean you need to ditch your 3 series and get a pissat? I don't get that?

Also, why utter A4 and 3 series in the same sentence?

Here is a higher spec Highline with the much better 1.4 tsi engine that is cheaper:

Leather is alot easier to keep clean too than fabric.

Is the 1.4 engine in that not seriously underpowered for such a big heavy car?

1.4 is fine, the 1.6 should be taken outside and shot.

1.4 tsi has plenty of power, have driven one and found it to be very quiet, smooth and comfortable but than again I drove Passat 1.6 fsi which OP is looking to buy and didn't find it slow or underpowered at all but i guess that depends on who is used to what kind of power.

Don't get the 1.6 FSI. The 1.4 TSI came out in 2008. It has more bhp than 1.6 and good acceleration with the Turbo. Also has a 6 speed gearbox which is very economical on motorway. I have 1 and love it.
Most people don't believe me when I tell then it's 1.4 (good tax and insurance also).

the 1.6 is not turbo charged like the 1.4 .put a turbo charger on the 1.6 and will see who will be shot

The 1.4 litre is turbo charged, has 122bhp and alot more torque than the 1.6 litre.

Cheers for all the advice. I'm going to go see the 1.4 on Tuesday and will make the decision after that with all the advice in mind
