My recent Ryanair experience

Here's my very recent experience (Yesterday/Today):

Booked a flight for myself and my friend. I put in his first name as "Kris" but it is actually "Kristopher".

When I checked in online, I noticed the mistake like yourself. I didn't ring as I presumed there would be a charge. Decided to wing it.

Yesterday morning, outbound to the U.K. a member of Ryanair staff taking passports/boarding passes noticed the error. His exact words were "Next time, use your full name." We boarded the plane.

This morning inbound, the staff member didn't even notice.

I would have suggested risking it until I read the previous posts about amending the booking free of charge. Either way I wouldn't spend "hours in tears and shaking like a leaf" and get some sleep. Travelling is tiring. I'm wrecked! It'll be fine. :)

i'm glad the staff member had a bit of common sense....you just never know with ryanair!

Pot luck amigo, just because you were ok doesn't mean some other poor sucker won't get stopped by a gate dragon and denied boarding.

With FR, take nothing for granted.

Just call them and they will change it for free. Has happened me a few times with work bookings.

I've said it to people before, but no one thinks it could be true with oh-so-evil Ryanair. The gate dragons have to board up to 189 people in the space of ten minutes. They're hardly going to notice something like that. People getting worked up about the wrong passport number having been entered, or the wrong date of birth. You're lucky that they can check the name of your destination in the three seconds they spend dealing with you, let alone checking all the other stuff.

I'd say that's true of any airline. All of them say in the T&Cs that names should be as in passport and most charge a fee for changes. So while not being a fan of Ryanair, at least they do this free of charge. Then it's just luck of the draw if you get sensible staff.

You always have to put your name as it appears on the passport. Would have been your own fault had they denied you boarding.

Next time check spellings and names before booking. All quite simple really.

Delta charged me €150 match my name correctly with my Esta, from what I can see both here on boards and from what I hear from people's personal experiences Ryanair seem to have mellowed to a certain degree.
