Makes our 'nod and a wink' checks seem ....

    (Google translation )
Which properties can, should, must, must, have a classic to get the coveted H-plates? Defined since March 2011: At the "Directive on the assessment of classic cars under § 23StVZO" appeared, which took effect in November 2011. This gets a "list of requirements" for the mandatory testing mandatory, what is allowed and what is not at the Oldie. The problem here: First, some rules are so scarce or imprecise that a clear and consistent assessment can not be guaranteed, secondly, are some guidelines so stringent that they simply pass the reality.
The famous "Directive" there is here as a free PDF
Examples? Drive your 1970 BMW 2500 for testing, the engine is from a 1978 BMW 525th Is indeed virtually the same, it's not even see, but you can forget the H-plates, because of the "list of requirements" can only exchange engines "from the same vehicle model" to. Or take your Mercedes 200 "Stroke Eight" to check the equipment you jazzed up with an original power steering and you have reduced its consumption with a contactless transistor ignition. Vinegar is also here's the "H", as allowed in the catalog engine ancillaries only "original components or contemporary changes" and consists of a steering "in its original version or the vehicle model." It's wishy-washy: Is there now the servo variant thereof or not? Oh, and if you tire of the ol 'balloon-size 175 SR 14 no longer get: Your problem, as the "original version" of the catalog also required here. the grievances, the LFS ("Working Group for exchange of experience in the technical vehicle inspection" , that is: the private Prüforganosationen) roundtable now been removed, after a long struggle by having created a "Work Instruction", specified the complement and correcting many aspects, examples and thus calls answered open questions. However, this was intended as "internal paper", is not so published. Official reason for the strange secret: There will always be adjustments - continue to want the inspection organizations such as TÜV, DEKRA, CWT and GTÜ once put together in the year to vote on amendments. CLASSIC AUTO BILD and autobild.de end the secrecy:

This "work instruction" See here as a free PDF!
The conspiratorial document defines for example the concept of "family" close, summarizes the requirements for the election of a replacement engine much further. There is also more leeway in dealing with the frame or with the use of modern nachgefertigter wheels and tire sizes. All of the above practical examples are now clearly defined, all technical changes are now listed "H-plate ready." But all of that after the drafters should not read vehicle owners. Sidenote: What happens when these questionable decisions at just steadfast nachhakt? The fundamental problem of misery remains the Directive itself. For it is not only so concise and unclean formulated that not only lawyers about tearing their hair. The secret "work instruction" is now trying to repair behind the scenes: Giddy-corrections and additions nachgeschobene are to ensure practicality.

Just to explain to anybody unfamilar with German plates...

The 'H-plates' referred to above are 'Historic' plates which can be issued to classic and vintage cars. AFAIK, H-plates mean lower road tax, but are more restricted than normal plates. H-plates are plates with the letter 'H' at the end of the registration.

Classic vehicle owners in Germany (with several vehicles) can also apply for a type of Trade Plate for €200 p.a. This 'trade plate' can be used on any car in the holders ownership. These plates are red-on-white in colour.

Problem here is govt. won't release personal /trade plates etc - cannot think outside the box that people might actually pay for convienience - civil service stuck in tax more more more mode - and the public are just saying 'Feck them' I'm getting the (subsidised) bus !!'
