Lens Question.

I got a new Nikon Camera.

I got the cheapest best deal I could to save money for glass.



I have saved a couple of hundred so far and should have scraped together 500 by the new year. hopefully.

What I require or want .

3 good lens that cover wide angle, walk around and one up to maybe 300mm

First buy with my 500 budget for one decent lens.
I want a telephoto lens that will do wide angle and maybe around 50mm focal length. Sharp and fast. f2.8 range maybe.

I don't want to bother with slow lenses as I also like to take photos of motor sport in dim forests the odd time.

My cam needs af-s or af-l lenses as I dont have a built in focus motor.
My camera has a crop sensor.


Could I have some suggestions from Nikon users .

Thank. Great suggestion. I had a 35mm prime on my last canon and it was my fav lens, But had to do a lot of moving around to compose. I might keep saving for that 17-55 though. It looks like it holds it value well as well. If it was just 150 cheaper on the second hand market, I might be able to get it in the January .

I have both the nikon 35mm (€160 used IIRC) & tamron 17-50 (non-VC, €290 refurb).
Happy with both, but I'm a low frequency user.

At less than <€200, I would say the 35mm f1.8 is the 'must buy' nikon dx lens

I should have money together for a medium range 2.8 zoom in January. Im currently trying to sell every bit of stuff in the house of any value to fund another. My new kit lens if even for sale.

I was looking at the Tamron 17-50VC Or perhaps a 50mm prime.
Im not sure. I get the feeling that I should keep saving for Nikon glass instead of tamron.

Anyway. The 18-200 looks like a great upgrade from the kit. Not exactly what I set out for. But the money involved is very off putting
