Another recommend a laptop threas,please

Hi Folks,

Thanks for taking a look at this, posting on behalf of my brother who is a 3rd level student and wants a laptop to last min 3 years.

Mainly using microsoft office, watching movies, a little web design such as xampp.

13' screen,
SSD is being raved about as the hybrids are getting stick
Ultrabook territory
windows 8
ivy bridge i3 or i5
Decent sound
4GB memory

Screen seems to be a big selling point, what are the pro's/con's on Led, Non Gloss, Display, HD?

Curious what peoples take on the mac air, is it worth it etc, issues with transferring stuff to windows pc's and visa versa?

Mac Air is such a beautiful piece of... anything actually but way overpriced IMHO. Yes if you got other Apple devices already (iphone, ipod, tv...) but still it's more about fashion than top functionality.

My experience with hybrid disks is only positive hands down.

With the ultra book I would check the keyboard size. Sometimes they may be smaller and more difficult to type on.

I had a few small laptops and went for a standard size laptop this time.

If you get a good rucksack type case you won't find carrying it.

i agree price for Mac way too much and also good tip on keyboards being too small.

if it was my decision and not for my bro. I would have no issue with a regular size laptop.
