Portabe HD: Lights on but nobody home

Just wondering if anyone knows what could be wrong? My HD (Hitachi) is lighting up when plugged into my comp but not showing up on the screen, using a Mackbook Pro. Used to work up until roughly 1 wweek ago. Bought a new wire for it to make sure it wasnt a dodgy connection but still nothing. Whats my best option/ where…

Whats my best option/ where should I go? HD was bought in tesco a good while ago, no receipt. Im in Leixlip myself.
