Is this the same Padraig who is only one shot behind Garcia after two rounds?

Saw a bit of this today...the more I see of Oosthuizen, the more I think he's the man to take on Rory consistently over the next few years. No real weakness to his game and his swing is so simple and efficient its hard to see him having any sort of sustained slump. All he needs is a bit of an improvement in attitude in terms of putting the hard yards in on the range.

Set up for a cracking weekend, birdies galore by the looks of it!

Have you an insight into his daily routine?

Nope but its been referred to on commentary by too many people at this stage for it not to have some truth attached to it.

I probably worded it a little harshly in my original post but he is said to be very laid back and not overly driven to go the extra yard in terms of practice. Its referred to briefly here and here

I agree with you SSK that he is sublimely talented but I think his laid back demeanour hides a steely determination. I think the Masters loss this year hurt him alot but the experience will defiantly stand to him in the future. The guy is highly tough of by his peers.

No doubting his swing is as pure as there is out there.

Will be intriguing to see if he can close out a win this weekend if he's in contention come Sunday, he's been up there a lot this year in big tournaments with not a lot to show for it in terms of wins.

Great to see the top lads play.

But for an end of year bash - it is an awful place. The course is not suitable for this.

I was looking at the width of fairways going, I would even like to play there with all the ex footballers it is designed for. As for the empty houses on the side:eek:

52 out of the 56 are under par overall.

Nice finish from Garica today, 2 double bogeys :pac:

Rory and Luke are putting on a show today. Great tv.

Also, 90 odd holes without a bogey around that track for Luke. Phenomenal stuff.

Really looking forward to tomorrow now. World Number 1 and 2 shootout for the season ending tournament. Alarm clock set.

Sponsers are only delighted id say!

Louis already has - tied second after 2 & no guaranteed birdies for Donald or McIlroy on the par-five 2nd...

Louis and Luke make swinging a club look so effortless.

Some leaderboard shaping up, gonna be a shootout I think.

And what about the dark horse coming up on the rails, don't recognise him but he's got a seriously dodgy mo :pac:

Edit - I really should just keep my trap shut :(

Harrington goes out in 32... then starts the back nine double-bogey, bogey... he'd do your f*cking head in...

Heartbreaking mate, his golf over the past year has been good enough to win a tournament but he's really struggling to put it together for 4 consecutive rounds, or get it done on a Sunday when the pressure comes on.

Really swings and roundabouts at the top at the moment, if Rose can get to 19 or 20 in the house he could really put the pressure on the top 2 and the SA lads.

    Gonna finish with a tap-in eagle for -14... Chap's a nutjob :-/

What a putt from Rose on 18, crackin' TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭SSK

That was ridiculous, deserved to drop! What a round by Rose and puts the ball back in Rory's court. Would love to see a playoff here

What a putt on 16... just noticed on twitter, not than I'm a gambler at all, but Rory was even money with Boylesports before he made that putt & Rose 8/11, some price I thought... but would obviously be tighter now...

    Been a great day's golf...

Nothing better than seeing a player doing it under pressure
Great tee shot by Rory on 17
    birdie and its over
He's hit a dodgy tee shot or two on 18 this week

Outrageously good from McIlroy, different class

And fair play to the European Tour for finally getting their website and tournament coverage into the 21st century, the tournament tracker has been a hell of an improvement on their old 2 bit, buggy leaderboard

Holy god Rory is on a different planet of golf when he is in the mood!!!!

    An absolute joy to watch.

Jesus if McGinley mentions the "gears" one more time...........

He's a weak enough analyst IMO. A lot of cliches and no real insight.

What a way to win it. From 3 behind with 5 to play to win by 2. Outstanding. I'd say Rose can't believe it.
    What was the winning cheque?

Is Rory as good as tiger was back in the early 2000's???

    I think he is myself.

    Could he be even better?

Year 2000 -On the PGA Tour Tiger played 20 tournies
    won 9 times
    4 second places
    17 top tens
    20 top 25's

Won 3 majors and came 5th in the other.

    €1 million

I've said it before and here was further proof, if needed... although every player has peaks and troughs, McIlroy's best golf is so much better than anybody else's in the world that, when he's firing on all cylinders, he's pretty close to unbeatable.

He was just ticking along there today, nothing out of the ordinary. Bogeys a par three then, boom, home in five straight birdies... unreal...

It's definitely a better record than Rory's at roughly the same stage of their pro careers. Tiger finished 2000 as his fourth full season (turned pro in August 1996), Rory has just finished his fifth full season (turned pro in September 2007). Tiger had almost double the wins and more than double the majors (5) at that stage.

However, Tiger had just turned 25 at the end of 2000, Rory won't be 25 for another season and a bit (May 2014). Might be interesting to compare their careers at that stage. As it is, when Tiger was 23 years and 6 months old, he'd won 12 tournaments including 1 major. Rory at the same age has won 12 tournaments including 2 majors.

But don't forget Tiger is playing in his home country, under conditions he has always been accustomed to, whereas Rory has had to switch from his natural environment in order to play the biggest tournaments. To my mind if Rory won 40 PGA events, it would be the equivalent of Tiger's 70.

There are more than enough differences between the various American states to equalise that IMO.

And Rory has adapted quite well to the PGA tour; 4 wins in his first year is impressive and the highest by any European Tour player.
