    Munster:
    F Jones; D Howlett capt, C Laulala, J Downey, L O’Dea; I Keatley, D Williams;
    W du Preez, M Sherry, S Archer; I Nagle, B Holland; Dave O’Callaghan, N Ronan, P Butler.

Replacements: D Varley, M Horan, BJ Botha, D Foley, CJ Stander, P Stringer, JJ Hanrahan, D Hurley.

    Scarlets:
15 Morgan Stoddart 14 Nick Reynolds, 13 Gareth Maule, 12 Gareth Owen, 11 Andy Fenby, 10 Aled Thomas, 9 Gareth Davies,
1 Phil John, 2 Emyr Phillips, 3 Jacobie Adriaanse 4 Jake Ball, 5 Richard Kelly, 6 George Earle, 7 Johnathan Edwards (capt), 8 Craig Price.

Replacements: Kirby Myhill, Shaun Hopkins, Samson Lee, Johan Snyman, Dan Thomas, Rhodri Williams, Dan Newton, Adam Warren.

Decent enough team, I wish they would give John Ryan a chance though. Big chance for Nagle to lay down a marker, we know he has the talent. Downey is back from injury and O'Dea gets another start. Most eyes will be on CJ Stander when he makes his debut off the bench.

Williams? Where is Sheridan these days?

Looking forward to seeing LOD again.

As you say, decent enough team.

Main problems looking at it would be Archer and Williams. Archer has been destroyed in a recent A game, and while he held his own for a few weeks there, he's shown too often he's not a capable scrummager. I wonder why Penney persists with him, he's not a stupid man... does he do well in training, only to collapse on the pitch? Does he see the potential for things to click and him to start doing well? I don't know...but I haven't see any evidence, and I'd like to see Ryan and Cotter given a chance.

And we all know about Williams, again you'd wonder why someone like Sheridan isn't at least given a chance because Williams really doesn't ever look like he'll make it... hopefully I'm wrong.

No Coughlan back but the pack is good enough all the same. Ronan is finally fully recovered, Butler will get the chance to continue his form and Nagle is finally started in the 2nd row, he needs to make an impact this season. Obviously Stander on the bench is the big news, and I can't wait to see him.

And in the backs, Downey must be recovered from his hand injury, good to see him back. Hopefully we'll see Hanrahan for 20+ minutes.

Those were my thoughts exactly when I saw the 23, a solid team overall though with weakness in two key positions. At least Botha is on the bench in case Archer can't hack it, but Stringer isn't much better than Williams at this stage. I can't remember seeing Sheridan play, how much of a prospect is he?

I only saw him twice myself but he looked like another Murray - big SH with a decent pass and an ability to break.

Pretty decent team from Munster and not a bad bench.
Where did Stander come from? How highly rated is he?

Pretty decent team from Munster and not a bad bench.
Where did Stander come from? How highly rated is he?

He's from Blue Bulls and seems to be able to play anywhere in the backrow but 6 and 8 seems to be where most Munster supporters seem to want to play him. As regards how howly rated he is - I haven't seen to much of him but I think he'll make out H/cup team and for the time being that's probably enough. He's here as a project player so may want to try for an irish jersey.

Looking forward to the game and we've a fairly decent squad named, like Thomond above I'd like to have seen John Ryan get a run. Would like to see him in Rabo game and see how he gets on.

Poor CJ. 22 years old, barely a dozen Super 15 starts and he's already deemed our saviour. Still, can't wait to see how he gets on...

Strong backline, and probably the best pack we could put out. Likewise, it's good to see Nagle get a start - who knows if/when O'Connell will be back and how long he'll last.

Both Ospreys and Glasgow lossing tonight, good results for us. Give the Scarlets their customery hammering and the table will start to look a lot better.

Glasgow are still out of reach for the time being with that LBP though. :(

Really looking forward to this now.

I'm expecting a comfortable win tbh, on paper our team looks a lot stronger imo. Could be a couple of questions over our pack...but as long as Archer doesn't ge destroyed in the scrum, the rest should be okay. Looking for a big game from Nagle.

About to head to Cork for the game, first of 3 home games on the trot, which is great. Hope the weather is better in Cork than Limerick. In saying that I'm looking forward to it. Just hope for a decent game and hope we stay injury free in this part of the season, 2 very important Hcup games coming up. Looking forward to seeing CJ getting his 1st cap for Munster.

    Gwan Munster!

Stoddart is one of my favourite Welsh players, it's a real shame he broke his leg before the RWC. He's only just back from it.

This is probably a must win game if we want a chance at a home semi-final, a loss today means Munster would be 9 or 10 points off Scarlets on second place.

Excellent play there but went loose from Nagle, when the pass probably should have gone wide to Keatley. Nice kick from Keatley then though

Good handling by the backs there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,899 ✭✭✭✭BBDBB

we need to take some points during this period of dominance

LOD is quite a powerful runner. I wish Laulala wouldn't try the offload every time, he's got to take into account the situation. Two handling errors in a minute there.

We win a penalty at the scrum, against Phil John. Good start for Archer.

Scarletts are a bit slow off the mark here, could be a few tries in this for us

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 526 ✭✭✭goreyguy

great take from ronan, but poor throw.

scrums are a mixed bag, scarlets had two safe ones then lost badly.

Must be Some wind to take that kick so far wide

    Good tackle Paddy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 526 ✭✭✭goreyguy

despite huge dominance, lucky not to be behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

Some distance on that kick from Keatley.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

Duncan Williams' service has been good so far and he won a good penalty at the ruck too.

    Nice kick considering the wind.

    3-0

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,264 ✭✭✭✭Fireball07

3-3, gave away a few penalties there

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭Lelantos

Too many handling errors by far, need to cut that out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,930 ✭✭✭duckysauce

Ronan taken out of it nasty

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,612 ✭✭✭Lelantos

Ronan could have been seriously hurt there, looked deliberate imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,899 ✭✭✭✭BBDBB

    bit of a cheap shot

Ronan smashed into the head, not nice

Been very sloppy... after the decent start in the scrum we've been mangled. Conceding too many penalties. Handling errors in decent positions too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,433 ✭✭✭✭thomond2006

    That looked bad for Ronan.

    CJ to come in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,988 ✭✭✭Spudmonkey

Ronan off injured. He's having a pretty torrid time of it.

Feel very bad for Ronan...we're going to see if Stander a lot earlier than expected.

Time for the saviour to step up :p

More to do with Jerry overselling his Gaeilgoir credentials I'd wager!!

Nah he's been doing that for the start...he does his Irish analysis at the end. It's obviously their policy to have a few English bits thrown in.

Was it? I thought it was an excellent piece of rucking. Turned over the ball too..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 526 ✭✭✭goreyguy

    Archer getting pushed around

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

Hopefully it's only a stinger type injury for Ronan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,818 ✭✭✭Tigerandahalf

Probably because they are afraid of losing viewers to the BBC or Welsh channels now that a lot of people have Freesat channels.

Since the start of the game or the start of the season?

I've definitely only seen him conversing in Irish before this on TG4, and he's seriously struggled to put any coherency into his analysis as Gaeilge anyway.
