Not looking for medical advise but have been today diagnosed with 3 fractures in my pelvis. Just wondering if anyone else ever sufferred this injury and what the prognosis was. How long did your recovery last and you where back on the bike or partaking in any exertive physical exercise

awh no way billyhead! I am sorry to hear that. All the Very Best in your recovery though :)

I've never had breaks so I just don't know about time-frame before taking on any exertive physical exercise, sorry.

Mod Note - the OP has made it clear he is not looking for medical advice and you should not provide anything that may be interpreted as advice on either what to do or indeed how to do it to aid recovery

I fractured my superior pubic ramus when I first started cycling (tram lines in Switzerland). Was lucky I just got the 1 fracture, apparently it's unusual. Was off work 4 weeks, then back on bike not long after. It was walking and sitting that hurt me the most. No crutches, no rehab, was sent home from x-ray in Scotland with paracetamol and no follow up. Haven't had any problems since. Hate swimming, but found that helped me a lot.

Easiest healing injury I've had (8 weeks since hand surgery, still off the bike and hating the turbo trainer).

    Hope you heal fast.

THe healing process may vary for everyone depending on the individual and types of injury. The very best thing to do is to take the advice of the surgeon and physios, they have probably dealt with the particular injury many times and know the healing process and timescales involved.

I broke both LHS pubic rami in 2010 plus a couple of ribs and teeth. Needed 5 days in hospital. Attempted exercise bike after 5 weeks. Then MTB granny gear on the road the following week. I think I was back racing in 12 weeks, but it took much longer than that to get back to near my previous level. In hindsight, I rushed back a bit early. My left leg is still up to 4% weaker than my right one (tested on a Wattbike). Best of luck with the recovery. It's a damn painful injury.

 Sorry to hear that billyhead. Get well soon.

Was it from you Loughshinny tumble or did you have another one?

Yep it was the tumble I had heading towards Loughshinny. The doc initially thought it was a soft tissue injury but an MRI i asked to have because of the pain a week after visiting him revealed 3 fractures in the pelvis. Luckily they are not displaced and the Orthpaedic doc informed me that they should heal naturally but it may take a while. Going to start rehab work in the pool this week on advice from the physio. TBH I should have stopped cycling after the crash as I continued on for another 40km after the fall. I also should have went straight to A&E then the local doc
