We are thinking of moving to a village in North County Dublin. We will both need to go in the City centre, Parnell St and IFSC. Is there any park & ride or what are our options, we both have cars ?

Portmarnock station has a large carpark, always spaces.
Rush and Lusk are served by the 33X
    Donabate has train and 33D

There is no official park and ride service like in Galway or Cork though.

UNREAL - ALl the money spend on nonsense ! A Park and ride which uses the Port Tunnell, Bus every 5 mins, packed ! Takes in the IFSC and South City centre route !

You can park at any train station and ride on the train into Connolly. Its Park and ride ;).

You can leave the car at home and ride the bus into town ( depending on your location ) Its park and ride :).

    Its worked allright so far.

You could drive and park in Connolly station.

    Have a look at www.a-b.ie

You do realise that all the towns in north county Dublin, except Swords, have their own train stations?

Balbriggan Car Park Spaces = 99, Dublin Bus route 33/a, Bus Éireann route 101, 101x, town bus service route 104

Skerries Car Park Spaces = 200, Dublin Bus route 33/a/x

Rush & Lusk Car Park Spaces = 260, Dublin Bus route 33/a/x

Donabate Car Park Spaces = 210, Dublin Bus route 33b/d

    Malahide Car Park Spaces = 130, Dublin Bus routes 32/x, 42, 102, 142

Portmarnock Car Park Spaces = 200, Dublin Bus routes 42, 102,

All deliver you right into the IFSC or immediately nearby.

Balbriggan train station has 99 spaces, there's another hundred below at the Bracken at EUR2 per day and about 400 at the 33 terminus opposite the church.

There are free carparks actually in Rush, and spaces to park in Lusk, rather than the overpriced car park in the Rush and Lusk station.

I make it 256/month* for 2 rail passes and parking for 4 weeks assuming a weekly rate of 8euro per week at one of the train station car parks.

Parking at connolly station is 28 euro per week, or 112/month, and would be something under 100km per week extra driving, probably 8L of fuel per week so about 50/month. Total = 162/month.

With 2 of you going to the same part of town, and connolly car park being reasonable walking distance to both your work, I wouldn't be getting on a crammed train in the mornings and evenings, I'd sooner face the traffic. It might be a bit longer a commute, but I'd go in early and go for a coffee with my other half in the morning around Connolly somewhere before work. Also, only one of you would have to drive, you can car pool among yourselves, and that would keep the stress down and share the burden of car wear and tear at the same time.

    * of course, if there's taxsaver schemes at your respective work, this comes down.

Translation please? I can't make sense of this.

Why are you deciding to live in a village if transport to the city centre means so much to you?

In fairness it is a very good idea and really should be in place.

Originally a park and ride like this was supposed to be built on the M50 next to a Metro North station. But now that MN has been delayed/out off for many years/decades, it isn't going to happen.

I think they should still build this park and ride facility as a separate project, with frequent buses using the port tunnel.

Perhaps the bus could run out to Swords and further out too, part of a BRT.

Of course if ye're moving to a village in NW Dublin like the Naul, Oldtown or Garristown, then there's probably free on street parking near Wadelai or Shanard, where you could get a bus on Ballymun road into the city centre

Ha ha ha .... sure Galway has P&R for a month at Christmas (starts tomorrow, if anyone's interested).

Lots of talk about one for the other 11 months, no action that I can see. (Despite having a now-unused carpark at the airport.)

Malahide train station car park fills up very early in my experience.

OP there are also xpresso busses from a lot of the bigger towns which go near your destination

The OP is complaining about something not being in place after having decided where to live. Fail to prepare etc....

This is a thread about a specific current issue not some hypothetical situation.

    the following busses stop there, 1, 16, 16c, 33, 41, 41a, 41b, 41c, 44.

Journey planner says head to Ballough (man o'war) and get the 101 bus into city centre. No idea of parking availability there though.

And that would be the difference between a good engineer and a bad engineer.

A bad engineer just fixes the problem asked, a good engineer asks what is the root cause of the issue and if others might have similar issues and how might it be resolved for everyone.

Threads are often started on this forum that ask a specific question but then expand into a much more interesting discussion of larger issues.

Some slightly cynical answers there which aren't much help but as one who has been living in a Fingal village for the past year and loving it, I'd highly recommend it. As regards commuting into town, I'd recommend driving into Swords and getting the Swords Express or 41x into town. You would get into Swords or at least a bus stop without any difficulty and then a short spin home in the evening. If you are buying where I think you are, they look lovely houses!

Is there free parking in swords ?

No but I imagine that some people park in an estate and get the bus from there. Others park at Whitehall church.

I half agree with you on this issue generally but sometimes I half disagree with myself....

The root "cause of the issue" is (a) too many people living too far away from their places of work and/or (b) too many people living too far from decent transport links and/or (c) not enough decent transport links.
