MC-1 confusion

    Hi Guys.

I've been out of work for a couple of years now and have been getting jsa/jsb(?) since then. I am now currently (and for some time now) an out-patient in a Mental Health Service Day Hospital .

I recently got a letter from the Social Welfare Office regarding the National Employment Action Plan re a group engagement session. This is relating to finding work etc...

Anyway, with my illness this is not something I can attend. I rang the Department and notified them that I could (and why) not attend. I was told that I cannot continue to claim jsb(?) if not able/looking to work. I was told to get an MC-1 form and would then need to submit weekly forms from there on if accepted.

Do I get an MC-1 form from my GP ? My current 'treatment' isn't exactly nearing its resolution. Is it basically Disibility Benefit I'd be applying for ?

    Regards.

    Thanks.

Assuming this is not something that will be resolved in the next year (which I don't see it being).

Should I be applying for Disability Allowance seeing as it's an illness greater than a year ?

If you do not have an entitlement to Illness Benefit due to not meeting the criteria e.g. not enough contributions in the governing year you can apply to your community welfare officer for supplementary welfare allowance. If this turns out to be your case you keep sending in certs to Illness Benefit section even if they do not pay you.

Thanks. So NOT Disability Benefit then ? I thought Illness Benefit was for those in work. I am unemployed.

Illness Benefit and Disability Benefit are one and the same just DB was old term for it. Even if you are unemployed you may have an entitlement to IB depending on your contributions and as I already stated if you do not then apply for supplementary welfare allowance.
