    I am currently running an inFocus x9 720p projector (which I love!) hooked up to a laptop via VGA. I am going to replace the laptop with a dedicated HTPC and server.

    I have sound going to an Altec 4 speaker surround sound system but this is only temporary as the sound is just ok.

    I want to replace the sound system with a 5.1 setup amp+speakers+sub (preferably separates)

    The amp needs to take at least 2 optical audio inputs, one coming from the laptop another one coming from an apple tv (though I may get rid of this) if it could have an hdmi passthrough it would be even better. It's an odd shaped room so if the speakers were free standing themselves it would be a plus.

    Any ideas of where or what to start with on my search?
